Tuned Out: Why Day Break Is MIA from ABC.com

I see a lot of TVGuide.com regulars wondering why ABC has not followed
through on its promise, tendered at the time of Day Break's ouster
from the broadcast schedule, to make any of the unaired episodes
available on the network's website. Well, I checked in with an
Alphabet rep, and he explains that the holdup is due to "unforeseen
music clearance issues," which are currently being looked into. What,

copeab...
Why wasn't this a problem for the episodes that are already available
online?

David...
Could be that this episode includes licensed music. Or maybe now that
the online episodes are ABC's primary airings it's a bigger deal.

I suspect it ties into what you are saying. Either someone isn't happy
about the only airing being online, or perhaps ABC wants to lower
their payment since they aren't airing on the network. Either way I
wouldn't be surprised if this takes weeks to resolve.

David...
IMDB says that "the musicians union has been demanding payment for
online performances."

Steven L....
I'm surprised that's not negotiated in advance. Was the contract
ambiguous, stating that if the show is canceled, the musicians don't get
paid for the unaired episodes, even though the episodes may be streamed
instead?

is Daniel Powter reluctant to lend his American Idol song to the
finale?

PorchMonkey4Life...
CBS took forever to put the lost "Smith" episodes on too. Look for them
to be up by Feb 2007.

PorchMonkey4Life...
Episodes 4-7 were the lost Smith episodes because after they canceled
the series they seemed to have lost them.

PorchMonkey4Life...
feb 2007 was the predicted date for the "lost" Daybreak episodes. They
cancelled it just when I started to get interested in it.

David B...
Just take the music out of the episodes and show 'em. Jeez.

Beowulf Bolt...
The question *I* have is whether or not they will permit us lowly
non-Americans to watch the unaired eps. As it is I cannot watch content
on ABC.com.

Otherwise I'm going to have to start looking for a US-based
circumventor proxy service. (Or hope the eps hit one of the file
sharing networks the way the BSG webisodes did.)
