Knowing when a show's been cancelled

Richard Evans...
Over several years, DVR has accumulated a huge list of series to be
recorded. Some are active, some are on hiatus, some between seasons,
and some, I'm pretty sure, have been cancelled.

I'd like to purge the cancelled ones. Is there a site that tells you
the status of shows?

Garondo Marondo...
Just a heads up, if there's a show that hasn't aired any new episodes
for a few years and it isn't British or on HBO then its been cancelled.

et472...
But the "tv listings magazine" that comes with the local paper has an
almost weekly Q&A column, and it's surprising how often they'll field
a question about show that's long gone, yet the person with the question
for whatever reasons thinks the show is still current.

There's one this week, where someone is asking why Barbara Bel Geddes
isn't on "Dallas" anymore. The answer, after a comment about the show
no longer being on, was that she was temporarily replaced for health
reasons.

It's hard to believe, but that isn't actually an uncommon sort of
question.

Rhino...
Next thing you know, somebody's going to tell me that I Love Lucy isn't
making new shows any more!

..
Garondo Marondo!

karl...
Just a wild ass guess but I suspect any show that your DVR has been waiting
for than a year to return and record is probably toast.

Richard Evans...
So I guess I can ditch that Sopranos entry?

karl...
If it was June 4 2007 and there still hasn't been a new episode you might
want to think about it. [The last epsiode aired June 6 2006]

Given the final ruin is slated to begin in April of this year I don't think
you will make it.

Richard Evans...
And did you know that off the top of your head, or did you look it up?

karl...
I was pretty sure the last new run hadn't been a year ago but I didn't know
the exact dates.

Now imagine you have 100+ series set to record. You know you haven't
seen some of them in a while, but you have no idea how long and the
DVR can't tell you when you last recorded one,

Obveeus...
If you are recording 100+ series, you are a criminal. Why should we feel
bad that the criminal can't keep track of his business?

Richard Evans...
Oh puhleeze!

Might you then ask for a pointer to a site that answers that question?

karl...
Dude, you are way too worked up about this. I wasn't slamming the original
poster for asking. it was meant to be a light-hearted throwaway comment.

Richard Evans...
I didn't mean to sound worked up. I was the OP, and I just thought we
were having a conversation.

If I was going to get worked up, it would've been at the doofus who
called me a criminal.

Relax.

Or don't. Your choice.

Go to the bottom of this page:

It goes back a few years there too. It's usually pretty up to date.

If you don't see a show there that you're curious about, go here:

Select the show and the series dates are there. If there's no end date,
the status is likely okay or up in the air.
