...with all of the time you save now that your car can parallel park
itself?
Is this a feature people were actually looking for?
Agent Smith...

Sure, Japanese people, who live in doll houses and park their cars in
matchboxes.

I don't recall the last time I saw a parallel parking space.
But I sure wouldn't mind if the SUVs in the supermarket came within a
foot of the dividing lines . . .

This would be a useful function in big cities, yes.

They may not have been looking for it, in that they'd never thought
of it at all, but now that it's being offered I bet a lot of drivers
are thinking "Neat, I want that!"

Pfit. Learning how to parallel-park right is an accomplishment I'm
unreasonably proud of. It certainly took me long enough to learn. I
ain't giving up proof that I survived "Driver's Ed 100," thank you...:).

This is one of those features that will probably come and go
as an option every 10 or 15 years, Like 4 wheel steering and
"semi-automatic" transmissions. Some times engineers just
get carried away with an idea and don't quite figure out that
very few people will really want it.
Have you ever looked at all the special feature buttons
on a new microwave oven? Do you actually use any of them?
If it wasn't dirt cheap to have all those things, no one
would pay extra for them.
