Jericho vs. Lost

Ar Q...
Watch both tonight. I have to say Jericho is a far superior drama.

weberm...
You have GOT to be kidding!

Rick...
I like Jericho very much, myself. And sadly, I've found my interest in Lost
waning just a bit with this episode. Hopefully they can step things up.

Jericho is order and Lost is chaos. On Lost, we have seen 1000 questions and

Rob Jensen...
Jericho is Battlefarm Kansactica.

-- Rob

maybe only 10 answers. Tonight's episode is another mess. The producers
throw more questions in hope that the viewers forgot what happened in last
season's finale. But nothing really exciting happened. What we have seen
just make us become less and less concerned with Losties' fates.

Steven L....

Ar Q...
Many viewers' patience is paper thin right now. I don't suppose the first
six episodes will give us many answers. My prediction is that Lost will lose
2 million of season 2 average 13.5 million viewers after the six week run.

cloud dreamer...
That's the whole problem. People have no patience. People can't expect
everything to be revealed at once and certainly not without new
questions being raised. They expect it all now, instant gratification.

Mark...
Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit apparently. Notice how Ar Q

cloud dreamer...
Insults say more about you than they can ever say about me. I stop
reading at that point. It simply makes any point you're trying to make moot.

Mark...
Ah, so you can make a condescending post about those who disagree with you.
But when you get some of your own medicine back you try to claim the high
ground. Like I said in my last post, quite disingenuous.

cloud dreamer...
Condescending? What? Because I say people have to have patience with

Mark...
Thank you for proving my point.

cloud dreamer...
Is that you Troy???

Mark...
Amateurish dodge.

Stating your opinion is what this forum is all about. It's the little dig at
the end that crosses the line into condescending. So if you're going to dish
it out, be prepared to take it too.

this program?? Because too many people are just into instant everything
and don't have the patience to sit and enjoy the story. That's an
opinion. Simple.

EGK...
The show is starting it's 3rd year and still we don't have a clue as to the
big picture of what's going on. Just how much patience is required? I
don't expect them to give out much information at all until ratings drop
enough that they feel they have to dole out something.

cloud dreamer...
Nobody is forcing you to watch.

Mark...
Is this you expressing your opinion?

cloud dreamer...
Yes. If someone doesn't like how a show is playing out, why watch it?

Mark...
For entertainment purposes. Some people like to watch and follow the show,
others like to watch and laugh at the absurdity of it all. How dare you act
like the former is some how better than the later? Or to judge how someone
else spends their time. Either refute the facts of the discussion and keep
your petty personal insults and condescending jabs to yourself, or just keep
your yap shut.

Or another example of you being condescending?

cloud dreamer...
This coming from someone who opened his contribution to this thread with
a straight up insult.

Mark...
No, that was my opinion, reading comprehension isn't your strong point. And
my opinion is supported by the facts at hand. You ignored what was actually
said and instead constructed a strawman.

Sheesh, yourself.

said 'many answers'. Yet you come ranting back with 'People can't expect
everything to be revealed at once'. That's know as a 'Strawman'. It's where
someone with an opinion that they cannot support puts words in another
persons mouth, and then condemns them on that basis. You're refuting an
argument that was not made. Very disingenuous.

Unfortunately, Lost isn't a MacDonald's drive-thru. The show makes you
park your car and go in.

Hunter Rose...
It's not a matter of patience, it's a matter of trust. Trust
that the producers actually have something planned out and that
they'll show it to you in good time. That trust is... challenged when
the same producer's other major show *looked* like it had a plan but
thrashed around for years, seemingly making things up as it went
along.

EGK...
You said that perfectly, thanks.

Mark...
Yup, now on that point we can agree, Lost is like McDonalds. Lots of bulk
but lacking anything of real substance. Junk food, junk TV.

bob smith...
The fact that people have stuck around for 2 seasons with not much happening
shows that people *do* have patience. What people do not have is unlimited

hym3n_h0l0c4$t...
So much *HAS* happened. So many mysteries created, unveiled, solved.

The process *IS* the purpose.

patience,
nor should they.

cloud dreamer...
Not much happening??? Are we watching the same show???

Don't you think it's unfair to compare the first three episodes of

bob smith...
Yes. If you're one of those people who thinks that showing us that the
Others have
CD players and books is "something happening", you're sorely mistaken. Thats
not
plot - its flavor. 2 Years of flavor.

Note that I'm not necessarily complaining - I enjoy the show on the level of
exploring
these characters and the little morality plays we see from week to week. But
I dont
pretend for a second that anything is really happening on the show.
Everything we've
seen in 2 years would have taken 3 episodes if the show was plot driven in
the slightest.

Michael Johnson...
Some people have an attention span.. some people dont. You don't. Fair
enough. The fact of the matter is they've kept a consistant universe,
plot, and proven they know exactly where this is headed.

Did you even ask yourself what baking muffins had to do with anything
or did your eyes just glaze over that part while you waited for the
big plane crash? Lost is easily one of the most densely packed shows
on television but its not a show that will appeal to you if you don't
at least meet it halfway. It won't do your thinking for you. If a
steady diet of 'splosions with a plot a monkey could follow is your
thing there are plenty of shows out there for you. Go watch them.

Heck.. Survivor has a guaranteed plot twist every week with at least
one of the characters leaving the show. That'd probably be right up
your alley.

cloud dreamer...
And they certainly have told the story in a couple hours (in the
recaps). I much prefer the slow, detailed, bit by bit discovery of this
story.

Jericho to two entire seasons plus Ep 3.01 of "Lost"?

I've seen comparisons both positive and negative, and both are equally
unfair: Some people who fell in love with "Lost" back in Season 1 have
gotten jaded or turned off to it as late, whereas Jericho still has the
benefit of being a novelty. Other people who think Lost is vastly
superior to Jericho forget that a lot of folks were baffled and confused
by the first three episodes of Lost back in September 2004; it was with
Ep 1.04 ("Walkabout") that Lost found its footing.

The only fair comparison is to compare Eps 1.01-1.03 of "Jericho" to
Eps. 1.01-1.03 of "Lost." And it's worth reviewing the web-search archive
of this NG to see how those first three episodes of "Lost" were regarded
back then (not how they're regarded nostalgically now).

CBS would be thrilled if "Jericho" even makes it to a third season.

On the other hand, although we don't see the big picture of Jericho yet,
viewers should be quite satisfied with every solution and answer to their
crises and questions which are presented in an orderly way, so the audience
not only begin to get attached to, but fall in love with the people in
Jericho.

For tonight's episode, I give Jericho 4 stars and Lost 2.5 stars.

EGK...
I agree with you. Jericho has caught my interest while Lost has squandered
a great premise in my opinion. I've never liked all the flashbacks and
Jericho's more linear story helps.

Ar Q...
Jericho demonstrates that there is a simple and effective way to tell a
story. And I suspect any changes of Lost plotlines are diversions to deflect
actors' activities in the real world. Lost producers should not try to play
favors to make some of them stars or "punish" some of them using the amounts
of work.

I'm also finding I like the characters on Jericho more than Lost. Which all
means Jericho will most likely be canceled by mid season. :)
