Did anyone here catch the Christie's auction of Star Trek props,
costumes, set designs, etc. Oct. 5-7? History.com was showing it in
streaming video, it was very interesting, I thought! They had a ton of
very cool stuff, as well as some very puzzling things I'm not sure why
anyone would buy, but hey, it was still fun to watch!
Some of the highlights I saw, with the final winning bid:
Pair of tribbles from Deep Space 9: $4000
Dr. McCoy's spacesuit from 'The Tholian Web', original series: $120,000
(this one was hotly contested!)
Vulcan costume from 'Amok Time', OS: $45,000
Bird of Prey model, OS: $260,000
Battle-damaged model of USS Reliant from 'Wrath of Khan' film: $24,000
Klingon battle cruiser from original series: $85,000
Full-scale USS Enterpise-D model from Next Generation: $500,000
Ful-scale Enterpise 1701-A model: $240,000

Oh, sorry! I was using it to refer to anything that wasn't a miniature.

So the "Ful-scale Enterpise 1701-A model" was 1000 feet long? That
price isn't NEARLY so bad then. :)

I guess I don't understand what the term 'full-scale' means. Where are
these people planning to park their purchase'? $500K sounds cheap, but the
rental spot on a good space dock will bankrupt them. ;-)

Heh! I wondered that, too! I'm guessing they plan to either sell their
purchases, or pay to store it somewhere. The Enterpise D model was
easily the size of a compact car. It's not exactly something you can put
on the corner table of your living room...

6' would be an awfully compact car. The E-D is about as long as a car
is wide.
