Actually season 6 was probably Buffy's best season (tied with 2), since
the characters were dealing with internal problems within themselves,
and not some imaginary demon or god or other nonsense. Man vs. himself
is typically the most interesting of conflicts. (And what made Angel

The 8th season with the Lettuce Head Kids though would have been the
best.

The Season premiere where Buffy and the Slayers make a calvary charge to
rescue Angel's Avengers would have been awesome. And with the touching
reunion of Spike and Buffy, shocked at Spike being alive and stunned he
respected her claim of wanting to "bake" first, giving her elbow room--and
rolling her eyes at Spike's claim that he had to keep an eye on Angel being
in the belly of the Wolfram and Hart beast.
Almost as touching a reunion as Wes and Illyria, who would have been stunned
that Wes was alive, until Willow points out lifesaving magical surgery ...
been there done that. Even more stunning would be Willow's comment that
Fred's new look has seriously entwined her soul, that she could barely
detect embedded within the essence of Illyria.
After a recoup at the Hyperion Hotel, the Slayers set out to the next spot
the hellmouth is due to pop up now that it's no longer anchored to
Sunnydale.

Wouldn't that be season 9? Or did season 5 take place just in the
summer months that is normally unshown. THe first ep did take place
less than three weeks later after all.,

I have seen great division regarding the critique of S6. Some folks
love it and others thought it was one of the worst seasons of the show.
I, personally, enjoyed it and consider it to be one of the more
entertaining seasons overall. I love the Trio. I also really enjoyed
Evil Willow. In addition, the musical episode was a highlight for me.
It took me totally by surprise as I was watching the DVD set on the
first round of viewing.
There was only one drawback regarding the season. One of the underlying
themes throughout the season was Buffy's melancholia brought on by her
being "pulled out of heaven" and brought back. I find this logic to be
inconsistent with the primary reason she was sent to heaven to begin
with. Her greatest gift was her love for Dawn and her friends. Indeed,
that may be one of the greatest attributes that separate her from other
slayers that had come before her. She sacrificed herself and died twice
for others. Now here is where I find inconsistency. Her depression over
being pulled from heaven is a very selfishly motivated emotion.
Wouldn't she have simply felt great knowing that she made the ultimate
sacrifice and then been granted another chance to be and care for those
she loved.

Uh. As she explained, the real world felt dark & two-dimensional. It
didn't feel like life.

I don't disagree with that and it's not that I don't love it, but
compared to the rest of the series, it's kind of awful.

|
And that characterization felt like a random decision by the writers
that she should be miserable.

A small picky thing in an otherwise great season.

It's not really a choice:
BUFFY: Wherever I ... was ... I was happy. At peace.
Spike stares, shocked.
BUFFY: I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it.

Good point!
And here you demonstrate why season 6 is so great.
It challenges the intellect instead of just making a simple plot of
past seasons (glory=bad; buffy=good; Adam=bad; buffy=good). Season 6's
approach makes you THINK and question your beliefs.

And you're saying that not even being able to accept the core premise
of the season is a good thing? Sorry, I want to be able to at least
know that what I'm seeing isn't totally wrong.

My gramatical error does not change the fact that you are being very
arogant. This is demostrated by your ".Nope, I'm being right. " answer.

Time ... didn't mean anything ... nothing had form ... but I was still
me, you know? And I was warm ... and I was loved ... and I was
finished. Complete. I don't understand about theology or dimensions, or
... any of it, really ... but I think I was in heaven.
Spike continues to stare at her in dismay.
BUFFY: And now I'm not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out ... by my
friends. Everything here is ... hard, and bright, and violent.
Everything I feel, everything I touch ... this is Hell. Just getting
through the next moment, and the one after that ... (softly) knowing
what I've lost...

Seems to me this is expecting her to be not unselfish, but perfect -
and I don't think Whedon believes in perfect people as characters.

Buffy has always had a selfish side.
Lisa Coulter...
|
No she's not perfect - but I certainly thought her reaction was very
reasonable. In many ways she was in shock and it took a while to work
through this. I didn't find her reaction selfish - she wasn't choosing
to be sad about her situation, she just was sad because in contrast it
seemed so scary, and she'd had quite enough of that, she thought it was
past.

I don't think season 6 of Buffy was as bad as some people say. But I'm just
thinking that if you aren't interested in imaginary demons or gods, and
prefer shows that deal at the literal level with internal problems within
the characters, maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn't the show for you. Even

Way to twist what I did NOT say, into something completely different.
Imaginary demons and such are fun, but I expect more than just a
re-telling of a children's tale. ("Jack slew the dragon, married Jill,
and they all lived happily ever after with their paper cutout, perfect
kids.")
Seasons 2 & 6 brought the story down to real-world problems (boyfriend
issues & addictions & fear of commitment, et cetera). They took the
fantasy world and made it feel real & three-dimensional. Those seasons
were the best of the show. (imho)
Contrast that with another fantasy show, Land of the Lost, which has
about as much depth as a piece-of-paper.
|
in season 6, the events of its best two episodes (Once More With Feeling and
Normal Again) were demon-driven.
I'm told Big Brother is all about real life, and that the people in it have
heaps of internal problems for viewers to enjoy.

I think Angel season 2 to 5 (even 5, mostly because of the fantastic
ending) were better than any Buffy season. I agree that the first
season of Angel was bad.
