Hugh Laurie will go from approx $50,000 per episode to $300,000 per
episode in a
recent renegotiation of his contract that took about 2 months to
complete.

Plus a bonus for each patient saved.

Does anyone know if they work tv contracts like they do for sports
contracts? Does an actor get more/bonuses if they get Emmy nominations?
Could Hugh have made more?

I think that's great. I first loved Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster in
the Jeeves & Wooster series, and he's really shown his depth as House.
Who knew Bertie could be a hard-ass medical genius?

$300,000 is a lot to me but doesn't seem that much in tvland. Didn't they
Ian J. Ball...
pay Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser a million per episode for Mad About You in
it's last season or two?
Hugh Laurie was even better than the Bertie I'd pictured in my mind when I
read the books.
I also liked his suave sophisticated MI-6 agent Jules, in MI-5 (Spooks in
the UK).

He was also very funny as the dimwitted Prince Regent in the third
season of 'Blackadder'.

He probably could have held out for $1 million or $750,000 but it might
not be in
his long term interest to do so. Higher salaries put more cost
pressures on a show
and the other actors on House would probably start grumbling that they
deserve more
as well. The longer a show stays on the air the better the chances for
future syndication
deals, more money could probably be made that way for Hugh than in
taking it
now with a blockbuster salary.
