"Bones" out of "Idol"

David...
Since it's been a hot topic lately:

"Bones" held on to 48.5% of "Idol"s audience and 44% in 18-49s, which
is borderline acceptable though FOX could still do just as well if not
better with anything they put there.

JXStern...
Yeah, I watched some of the episode, and it's a totally bland
offering, supposed to be younger, hipper CSI and mostly fails.

Ian J. Ball...
Keep playin' that tune, fiddler! Maybe one day, someone will try and
dance to it!!

(numbers from futon critic)

SpencerDogg...
Does anyone doubt that Bones will be back next year. I don't. It was
around 40th overall for the week. Good enough for Fox to renew.

Patrick Joseph McNamara...
It's been a bit of a surprise for FOX. It's done better than they expected.
Hopefully it will gain more of an audience over the summer. The downside is
that they decided to move it to Wednesdays against Lost. I don't watch Lost,
so I don't mind, but it could hurt the ratings.

I would like to see it come back. It's one of the few procedurals I can
stand to watch.

Taylor...
:-p Stacked, anyone? The War At Home?

SpencerDogg...
You can twist numbers anyway you want. Now I interpret that as a good

David...
By "twist" you mean "report them as they are"?

SpencerDogg...
No twist means that you or I can take the numbers and make them sort of
fit our senario. Of course the difference would be that my senario would
be more accurate.

David...
I took the numbers straight from the futon critic and am reporting the
same thing the hollywood reporter is. I don't see what exactly is
inaccurate about anything I said.

showing. How does anyone expect anything to to pull a large percent of the
Idol audience which is achieving off the chart ratings. If Idol wasn't on

David...
30 million isn't off the charts. It isn't the Academy Awards or the
Super Bowl. Holding on to 14 million of those viewers isn't an
exceptional feat which only "Bones" can pull off.

David...
To be more precise, "Idol" got 28.3 million viewers, which only
outpaces "CSI" and "Desperate Housewives" by 1.5-3 million viewers so I
definitely wouldn't call it off the charts.

and bones got those numbers they'd be considered very good.

David...
Well, yes, I can't argue with that, but of course it would never get
those numbers without "Idol."

SpencerDogg...
True. But we won't know how different they would be. Had Bones been on
Weds at 9 all year then maybe we could make a more accurate
interpretation. But like House last year the show was making inroads and

David...
We can safely guess, based on the fact that it holds on to a barely
respectable chunk of "Idol"s audience and that it didn't do well on
Tuesday either.

then we hit the slow times in Dec and Jan, so that might also distort what
the number might be without the lead in.

David...
Okay, looking at new episodes since it premiered:

9/13: 10.48 million viewers (according to Berman)
9/20: 7.27
9/27: 7.57
11/1: 7.99
11/8: 6.85
11/15: numbers from zap2it so for consistency I'm skipping it
11/22: zap2it again and this time there's no data
11/29: Berman has the rating (5.4/8) but no number of viewers, but, for
comparison, the 11/8 episode got a 5.5/8 rating so let's say 6.8
million viewers.
12/13: 7.07

So it looks to me like the week after the premiere the show settled
into a high 6 million/low-to-mid 7 million range and stayed there
consistently, and without "Idol" it would probably have continued this
way.
