I just saw a ep. of a show from Britain (old one) called, "Wooster &
Jeeves" about a silly
upperclassman and his gentleman. Hugh Laurie (House) plays Wooster.

Congratulations. You're now starting to catch up with everyone else.

You wouldn't want Rich to let his title of "Dumbest Pet in Show" go to
waste.
I recently checked out the Wooster and Jeeves DVDs from the libary,
some pretty good stuff. The only problem with watching them all at once
was their disconcerting habit of switching actresses on some of the
female parts. Madeline Basset was played by three different actresses,
one of which then played Florence is some later episodes.

It still amazes me
how the British can supress their accents so well when they assume

Some can, some can't - the same way that some American actors can do a
British accent, and some can't.

Not all of them can. Marina Sirtis wasn't all that great at it on Star
Trek.

Yes, she did try. She was told to do it by the producers because they
already had Patrick Stewart's British accent and they didn't want
another one on an American show. The first few seasons she did a lot
better job sounding American than the last season. She probably figured
her job was secure by that point and quit trying as hard.

I recently saw Sienna Miller on the "Tonight Show" and she bounced back
and forth between American, British and Australian flawlessly.
Oh, and she's was smoking hot, too.

Hugh Laurie does a better american accent than just about anyone. He
is MUCH better than Mark Addy, for example.

I've seen him on talk shows, and he never does the House accent.

I know I just about fell over when I saw him on some talk show speaking with
a British accent. And he's not the only one who is British and doing the
American thing ... what's up with that? We don't have enough talented
actors in the States so we've hired out-of-country talent? Is it the same
thing in the UK? They get American actors doing a British accent?

Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones Diary.
Anyone else?

Just a thought,
|
I wonder if it isn't dubbed on the show, by another person entirely,
or just by himself but in a sound studio where he can take multiple
runs at it without reshooting the whole thing?
The results are entertaining enough, in any case.

But if it were a Black or Hispanic man acting all "upper-crust", you
criticize them for not being themselves.
