Obveeus...
It seems to me that the show within a show is really lacking in the music
department. Sure, they get 'big names', but wouldn't a comedy show want
musicians that are a bit more 'up beat'? A comedy show lives and dies by
the audience's mood. The should want a rockin' audience, not a well rested
audience.

Steven L....
"Ugly Betty" is doing something interesting that would be a good test of
Studio 60's believability as well:

"Ugly Betty" is making the inner show-within-a-show (Hispanic
telenovela) that Betty's dad watches on his TV, available as a show in
itself streamed on the ABC website. (With English translation of course.)

If Studio 60's show-within-a-show (the SNL surrogate) were that good,
NBC could produce it and make it available for streamed viewing as a
separate comedy show on their website too. But, as you and others have
pointed out, it's not that good.

If the SNL surrogate were that good, it would *be* SNL.

Mark Nobles...
You haven't SNL in a long time, have you?

Greg...
Corrine Bailey Rae is the sort of up-and-comer that would be on SNL.

Obveeus...
Corrine Bailye, Sting, and an orchestra have been musical guests on the
show. What else? Anything lively?

muzicmakr...
She actually was on SNL not that long ago. I can't stand her. She sounds
about 10 years old and looks about 14. Ick. And her sound is
made-for-elevator.

She has a great song called, "Put your records on." If you have
DirecTV, you can see her in concert on the free music channel they
offer.

Ken from Chicago...
The music video made her look like she was still in high school. Her voice
is certainly falsetto enough.

But yeah, she was a bit dull on screen. Also, she's going to be in

Ken from Chicago...
She was used for background music. They didn't even use the more uptempo
"Put Your Records On" song.

trouble for not fitting any of the pre-approved "edgy urban" black girl

Ken from Chicago...
In the music video she looks like a teenage girl. On the show she looked
more like Diana Ross--disturbing since I didn't know she's in her mid-20s.

looks. I think she's from the UK, though, so maybe she gets a pass

Obveeus...
Seemed like an Alicia Keys knockoff to me. Alicia tranformed enough to get
the 'edgy urban' audience later on so I'm sure this singer can as well, if
she so desires.

from the record industry.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow...

The singer last night, at first I thought she was going to be five
years old, given the sound of her voice. It was a little creepy at
first, seeing this grown woman sing in that kind of voice. I got kind

Victor Velazquez...
More a Shirley Bassey man than a Billie Holiday man, eh? I love 'em both
but I can see where a girlie voice could be annoying.

record hunter...
Now that you mention it, the first time I heard Billie, I didn't get
what everyone was so wild about. Even now, I've got thousands of
records and CDs, but only one by her, Songs for Distingue Lovers. And I
think that's been out on loan for the last five years.

I don't like whiny chick/little girl lost voices. There's a version of
Cat Stevens' "How Can I Tell You" that's airing a lot over a commercial

And yeah, to the OP's point, terrible guests for a "comedy" show (Sting
too!).

of used to it after awhile, but I doubt I'll be buying the CD.
