Anyone else find that animation kind of creepy for these commercials?

I find it to be a very transparent attempt to dress up a boring
commercial. Meanwhile I believe the same type of animation is used in
an upcoming movie.

Yes for "A Scanner Darkly" and its not the first time director Richard
Linklater's used the technique, it can also be found in his film
"Waking Life" Basically, they shoot the film and then animate over the
live actors and backgrounds.

I don't find it creepy ... more interesting. I notice that they have
the actors exaggerate their facial expressions to make the animation
more engaging.

WL used 12 fps digital camera footage, and looked horrible.
The same animator worked on the animated short for The Five
Obstuctions. It was 2 fps, and looked far more refined. The Charles
Schwaub commercials are as technically efined, I'd say.

When done right it can be quite pleasing but I would expect it to go
over Dan's head.

Are you talking about that dreadful Lord of the Rings movie Ralph
Bakshi did in the 1970's?

They seem more like manniquens then cartoon figures. Manimation maybe?
I hope this form of animation never goes beyond Charles Schwab.

I wonder if they pay a less of a fee to the "actors" or do they receive
"voice over pay"?

I agree, it is kind of creepy/bothersome.

What is this? Those live action ads they're running through filters to make
them look like animation? I find the style so repulsive I've never even
noticed who they're ads for.
