No plot _and_ no character development, just random
stuff slapped together to get one more episode out of the
season.

I would have thought there would have been at least some talk about
the encounter with "The Others".
I did LOL at the Ana remark. I hope they don't try making her
likeable.

simply gratuitous.

Why did Jack give Charlie stitches? Was that his passive-agressive
way of immitating what Locke did to him?

This was the first episode in the entire series that I just did not
understand. We've had bad episodes before, but at least the plot of
each episode made sense generally. This one didn't seem to.
Best part was Libby's sly line about the washer/dryer. Otherwise I
would have rated the episode even lower.

Meh. Three stars.

I wish to redact my vote and give it two stars instead.

1. This show has jumped the cross.

4.0 (Halon)
An exceptional "average" episode.

Felt like a "filler" episode.
Charlie seemed a bit too desperate for how his actions were explained in
the episode. Not a bad back story though.

Not super spectacular, but I'm reminded of one of the things I like
about the show--they don't weigh it down with dialogue as if every
second requires speaking. First example, when the tailies were
reunited with the firsties. And in this episode, the baptisms. Much
more poignant than if they beat us over the head with the words from a
baptism. The visuals said all that needed saying.

The fire works as well for the baptism. Like the phrase, "Baptism by Fire". I
figured that Mr Eko was going to use the ashes right then and there to anoint
Arron, like they do on Ask Wendsday.

Charlie just isn't that interesting.

The character is an annoying little twirp. (How in the
world can Merry Hobbit be a TV star?) What really worries me
is that he's being set up for some great spurt of growth and
an act of redemption that will make him a hero. Now *that*
would be sci-fi.

So what's your vote? Are you voting 0.0? Or 1.0?

In retrospect ... it did result some interesting theater ... creating
distrust and disdain towards Charlie by the losties ... but compassion
for him by many viewers ...

I give it a 1.0 I was very confused watching it. I was tired also that may
had somthing to do with me being confused. (trying to not end a sentence
with a preposition).
I never rated a show before but this was one of the worst I have seen.

Oh, sorry, 1.0.
I'm another person, BTW, who rarely if ever votes in these polls
(although I appreciate them immensely) but felt moved to record my
profound dissatisfaction with the ep.
|
|
goodness, I didn't think I would ever dislike an episode this much. But
it told us nothing (except hitting us over the head with the idea that
Charlie wants to be part of a family), accomplished nothing, and the
scene where everyone just walked away, leaving Charlie in the water,
after Locke beat him down was chilling, in all the wrong ways, making
all the characters seem completely heartless.

3.75 for me. As much as I wanted to love it, there was that
Driveshaft diaper spot that is still scarred onto my retinas...
Still, I feel for Charlie. He still is the younger brother who is
only good to have around if he's useful for something (including
Claire, IMO). Nobody seems to genuinely care for him. (And ouch, I
would not want to be punched by Locke!)
