7th Heaven spinoff?

Entertainment Weekly had a sample grid for the new network and one
block had space for a 7th H spinoff. I thought that was only in the
speculation stage--are they further along with that? Do they know what

Barrnabas Collins...
They could always do an "Everybody Hates Mary" where a young unknown
actress plays Mary where they feature what she does each week to get
in trouble at school.

Ian J. Ball...
No. EW was just speculating.

character(s) will go on to the spinoff?

allenkirshner...
If they do, it hasn't yet been made public. My guess would be they're
looking at a Martin / Sandy spinoff or a Simon / Rose spinoff, or maybe
a series that combines the four in some way. Personally, I'd prefer a
Matt / Sarah spinoff, but actor Barry Watson is committed to the ABC
midseason show 'What About Brian' (which debuts April 2nd and on which
he play's the show's title character). As such, he's not likely
available to shoot a Matt Camden spinoff pilot, let alone commit to a
new series.

Uniblab...
He's likely to be very available - I predict his new show will last about 2
episodes before getting the hook - It's going up against CSI: Miami and
Medium.

With most of the Camden kids adults now, it's possible--from a plot
line point of view--to move some characters onto their own show. But
the show has been about children and teens. The Camden kids as adults
isn't quite as interesting or unique, and it becomes one more show in a
very long line of shows, whether done as a comedy or drama.

As many have mentioned, it's teen life that has the drama--finding
one's self, changing from a kid to an adult. The drama--for
entertainment purposes--loses a lot when the teen goes off to
college--college years just don't have the same "edge" as high school
years do.

Anyway, here are some possibilities:

Simon and evil girl. (I still think of her as Eve, from her role on

Ian J. Ball...
Rose.

Angel. Maybe she still works for the senior partners and landing Simon
is part of some plot.) Simon is boring.

Ian J. Ball...
I agree, Simon is boring. But Rose is not. I would only seriously
consider watching a "Heaven" spin-off if it has the Rose character - she
is a needed antidote to the banal inanity of the Camdens.

Sandy and Martin and new baby: Sandy is cool, but Martin is boring.

Ian J. Ball...
You couldn't *pay* me to watch a series with a Duff sister!!

Simon and Sandy: Simon is still boring.

Ian J. Ball...
This would be about the worst combo possible. I don't see it happening.

Matt and wife: Has good dramatic possibility, but Matt and wife have
been on so rarely I doubt it's a consideration. His wife's parents
would be good to see.

Ian J. Ball...
Watson is, I think, done with the "Heaven" saga. He's so far not even
agreed to return for the finale, because he'd rather work on his
(doomed) mid-season ABC show.

I don't see a Matt/Watson spin-off happening.

Lucy and husband: Lucy is bland and completely unblievable as a

Ian J. Ball...
With it'll drive Rob Jensen nuts, this seems by far the most likely
basis for a spin-off. So, if one goes forward, I'd say that there's a
60-70% chance it'll be based around Beverly Mitchell and the much
beloved George Stults. :)

Now, would I watch it?... Probably not. But I'd be more likely to watch
a Lucy spin-off than any other Camden (sans Rose).

minister and counselor. (In real life counselors do not get
intimiately involved with their clients, nor freely use their personal
money to help them.) Husband bland, too. But perhaps the show could
focus on Lucy as teen counselor and the plot lines resolve around the
kids Lucy deals with from week to week. That's an old TV plot--the
hero going around place to place helping people--but has possibility.
Perhaps a teen or two could be hired as regulars, maybe foster kids in
Lucy's care or just regulars in the series. The advtg of this is that
they could make the drama as intense/gritty or light/soft as they
wanted depending on the desired audience. It risks being sacharine
sweet.

Ruthie: I think Ruthie is an interesting character and has some

Ian J. Ball...
Again, you couldn't *pay* me to watch a show based around this churlish
brat.

You forgot one that was suggested in RAT, in jest:

A Mary Camden spin-off:

Jessica Biel is a sub-par actress, but Mary is certainly the most "gray"
character "Heaven" has ever had (Mary's now a far bigger "villain" than
even Rose), so a spin-off based around her would be a welcome change of
pace.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's sunk into Biel's skull yet that she'll
never be a big movie actress, so the odds of them pulling off getting
her back for a Mary Camden spin-off are small.

Tony Calguire...
On the contrary... the beauty of the "Mary" spinoff is that they don't
need Biel at all! They could continue the same kinds of "Mary" plots
they've been doing for the last two years... somebody hangs up the phone
and says, "That was Mary. She can't make it", or somebody comes top the
apartment door and-- oh! You just missed her!

Hell, they could even do a "Fugitive" meets "Incredible Hulk" crossed
with "Quantum Leap" kind of show, where the unseen hand of Mary Camden
blesses and vexes a different group of strangers each week... hows that
for cheap actors' salaries? :-)

So, if a "Heaven" spin-off happens, I'd be the odds of its basis as:

Lucy & Kevin: 65%
Simon & Rose: 20%
Ruthie : 7%
Martin : 4%
Matt : 2%
Mary : <1%
anyone else : <1%

Happy in a "The Littlest Hobo" remake. :-D

potential for a spinoff. The problem is that the character is still a
kid--how would they focus just on her without the parents being around
(necessary to save salarlies)? I suppose they could send her to
boarding school and build a show around that, but is the character
Ruthie and the actress who plays her able to be the central focus of a
whole show?

I hope they don't pull a "Lou Grant". When that show was created, it
was terribly hokey. Grant's character changed, from a very grumpy boss
to an idealistic crusader who was grumpy. Everyone on that paper was
idealistic. (I'll admit one episode where art did imitate life--a
political reporter in my town was involved with a politician she was
covering and slanted news against his opponents. Big scandal.)
