What an excruciating drain of an hour out of my life. Were these

Did you actually set aside the hour, or did you have the shows
"playing in the background" while you did other things?

supposed to be sitcoms? I just finished gruellingly plowing through

Both shows sucked. The only difference between them was that 'Knights' had
no interesting characters/actors even in potential while 'Emergency' at
least had a bunch of actors that I know have the potential to be
entertaining.

each of them in what felt like one laborious second after another
without getting nary a snicker out of either one. Everybody just
seemed to try too hard with absolutely no payoffs. This really felt

I mostly agree. In the case of (har har) In Case of Emergency, yes,
everybody was over the top and then some. At least with Knights of

It was like they'd hired all actors that had never done comedy before.
Of course, that's not the case, but it's what it felt like.
At least with Knights of

Prosperity there was Rockford (was that his name, the big black guy
with big black super strength?) to provide a tiny bit of a straight
man. I cannot imagine either lasting past a few weeks -- although
personally I would like to see how far the Knights get in their
attempt.
In Case of Emergency was just a waste.

At least we got Kelly Hu in a tight t-shirt. :)

I agree. Kelly Hu looked good, but that show absolutely sucked. You
have to wonder who at ABC thought that was good enough to green light.
I wonder how many showing it'll get before it's cancelled.

"In Case of Emergency" (nice conceit--horrible title tho)
does need a lotta tightening-up but it has potential to
improve. The actors chosen are a good start.
As far as "Knights..." me predict a hit outa the box! Does
David Levy...
need a little tightening but betcha the funny will improve
oodles with time. Did anyone else think it looked like a
movie script that just never got greenlighted
(greenlit?)--sorta an "Oceans 11" vibe. Anyway, like I say,
David Levy...

That isn't exactly an original observation on your part. Did you miss
Donal Logue's "we're like Oceans 11" line?

The show is a complete comedic ripoff of Ocean's 11 and admitted it. Such

parody might make for a SNL skit or even a lame teen movie, but it won't
survive as a TV series.
David Levy...
|
It won't survive as a TV series because ABC's current management is
utterly incompetent when it comes to launching half-hour sitcoms.
David...
|
Only CBS can launch a new sitcom right now, and they can only do it in
one slot.
|
This, of course, has resulted in a snowball effect (due to the lack of
suitable lead-ins). I fully expect most of the thirteen episodes to
remain unaired.

like the longest laugh-free hour of sitcom TV I sat through since... I
don't know. This was just plain bad stuff, the both of them. What's
the comedy engine to either one of them? What's the hook that's
supposed to make me want to keep track of these two shows? No engine,
no hook, no characters, no laughs - what's the point? I'm baffled.
Grade: Zero x 2.

Wow. At least WQ makes a half-assed attempt to watch the programs

David Levy...

You've openly acknowledged that you sometimes have said pilots
"playing in the background" while you do other things. That's

Rubbish. If you don't give an episodic broadcast your undivided
attention (or close to it), your overall review is utterly
meaningless.

half-assed.

And yet, your rating for each was "zero." What sort of scale are you
David Levy...

If you've "seen far worse" than these two sitcoms, how could they fall
at the very bottom of your scale?

Then you aren't using a "0 to 10" scale.

using?
Obveeus...

So, if you:
A) use a 0-10 scale
B) gave Knights and Emergency both zero as a score
and
C) think that Knights and Emergency weren't as bad as some shows
Don't you think your scale is overly weighted towards 'zero'?

What You Said. I wasn't going to watch "Knights" either based on
something I'd seen in the paper, but it was on the set in the locker
room, and the 5-or-so mins I caught was enough to change my mind.

All I had to do was read the From: line to know that the original
poster would hate both these shows.
