David Johnston...
Watched a little CNN yesterday. They had a big splash saying "Korean
Missile Crisis".

When did the word "crisis" stop meaning "an immediately critical
situation"? The Cuban Missile Crisis was the American President

The same time that "Breaking News" came to mean that Nancy Grace was
*still* talking about some blond white girl who disappeared on her way
home from the bar.

delivering an ultimatum against people who had nukes pointed at the
United States. The Korean Missile "Crisis" is a development which is
some cause for concern but not anything that presages any immediate

This change occured shortly after the word "classic" began to be used to
denote golf tournaments irrespective of their history. Previously,
designating a tournament as a "classic" signified an event that had been
around for many years. Now, it's anything.

More recently, "unique" has come to mean unusual, rather than one of a
kind. Proof is found in the repeated use, by supposedly well educated
television reporters, of the phrase "very unique" to describe things.
As many of us know, "unique" used to be an absolute, requiring no modifier.

This development is doubleplusungood.

Matt Messina...
And just how you expect them to attract viewers with a big splash saying
"Korean Missile Development"?
