Here is the Kristin item Rob is referring to:

MOVIE Starlet
This talented little lady is fast becoming one of the best-known television
actors out there today. But don't you dare call her one! I'm told by sources
on set of her show that she scowls at anyone-reporters and costars alike-who
refers to her as a TV star, because she once starred in movies. This is also
why she often requests to be treated differently than her cast. Although, as
one who once spent nearly an entire second onscreen during the Felicity
finale (you saw me, didn't you?), I can say this kind of stuff can really go
to your head.

There have been many guesses as to who this is, but yours is the only one I
have read suggesting AB is the person. (Most of the guesses center on
someone from Heroes or Sally Field.)

The first line says "fast becoming one of the best-known television actors".

To the extent anyone on the CW can be called a best known television actor,
AB has been known for years. Her visibility on TV hasn't increased nor her
fame.

Her movie success has been modest.

This is your anti-AB bias showing.
I haven't done this in awhile, what with all the repeats, but now that new
eps are back for most programs: The shows aer sorted in order of the
overal viewer average for new episodes, and, other than Top Model, I only
included the currently airing series. These are only through 1/21 Ilast
Sunday) and don't include this week.

Ian J. Ball...
OK, I'm officially confused - *why* are they touting the ratings of
OTH?! It's not even doing as well as "Supernatural" (which itself isn't
doing any great shakes).

Obveeus...
Maybe the hype is just about a case of 'better than expected' or 'better
than last year'?
I'd give more hype to Supernatural for doing anything in the most difficult
timeslot on television.

So why is the 'Hallelujah chorus' get all up in my gril' about OTH?!

I don't get it...

William George Ferguson...
One Tree Hill isn't being touted at the expense of Supernatural (which also
got really favorable comments from Ostroff at the TCAs).

Obveeus pointed out (not in these words), about HIMYM on Monday, that it
doesn't have to beat its competition on the other networks, it just has to
beat its competition on its own network (the theory being, the network
isn't going to cancel everything, so if there are enough shows below you on
your network, you're safe). When you're in a group being chased by a bear,
you don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the next slowest
runner.

OTH has done well enough (better than VM last year) following ANTM, that
there isn't an obvious network reason not to renew it. Plus, we don't
usually see the demographics, and Ostroff and company may be seeing
something in F18-34 that makes them particularly happy.

At this point, OTH and Supernatural are doing pretty much exactly the same
in the ratings. However, the network appears to be happier with
Supernatural than with OTH because Supernatural has been doing it against
what were, until AI restarted, the 1st and 2nd highest rated regular series
on network tv so far this year (CSI and Grey's Anatomy). Ostroff pretty
specifically made that point about Supernatural during the TCAs.

Here's how Nielsen has the Season to Date through last Sunday (Nielsen
includes repeats shown during a show's regular schedule, does not including
special airings (such as on holidays).

DH snuck by CSI and Grey's in December by not showing any eps (repeat or
new) during the holidays. Both average higher per new ep than DH.

Some other thoughts about my numbers for the CW:

Now that I've done the tabulation, you can see the pattern with 7th and
Reba. 7th has shown more new eps than any other scripted show (for this
purpose we'll pretend that Smackdown isn't a scripted show), and Reba,
starting in mid November, has done as many new eps as the scripted shows
that started in September. That's a classic 'burn-off' pattern, except the
burn-off shows are getting really good (for the network) ratings. The CW
could finish all new eps for both series by March. We may get to see what
their long-term stategy (at least the first iteration) for Sunday is sooner
rather than later.

With the tabulated numbers, I feel even more strongly that with both
Smallville and GG the only way they won't be renewed is if the principals
(Welling and Rosenbaum, Graham and Bledel) don't sign. I also predict that

William George Ferguson...
Rob, you're mixing what Ausellio said, and what you inferred from what he
said. Sharpe Fan aleady quoted you back your quote of Ausellio, but I'll
do so also, to dissect it a little.

if resigning takes the form of including perks, such as P or EP credit, it
will go to both leads to maintain balance. It doesn't matter that we, or
even the showrunners, may consider Rosenbaum or Graham as more important,
getting both leads on board is key for both shows.

One Tree Hill didn't get the opportunity (so far) to be helped by BATG.
It's had 2 repeats (not counting yesterday) following BATG so far, and they
had 2.19 and 2.20 viewers, which is above its repeat average but doesn't
really help its overall average.

The hype was in regards to an episode that aired late November or early
December when it pulled in over 4 million viewers for the first time in
2 years. That's what the hype was regarding.
