Why do professionally-recorded tapes look so Crystal-Clear?

Sorry dude, just trying to help.
I was sitting and watching my old store-bought Star Trek TNG tapes.
And also the movie Titanic. I couldn't help noticing how CLEAR these
videotapes looked, even though they were using the old vhs standard.
None of my home recordings have that clarity.

Do professional recorders use some VHS+ standard that boosts the
left-to-right horizontal resolution higher than normal, but still
backwards-compatible with home VCRs?

Your "Home Recordings" are done from BROADCAST TV (doesn't matter if Sat nor
Cable).
Hollywood's Commercial Recordings are each and every one done from "Master
Film" which yes, is done "faster" than you can record off of TV, but with
1/2 $Mil and or MORE EXPENSIVE equipment that us the "Common Consumer" will
(likely) EVER be able to afford unless we too get "Unlimited Budgets" (I'm
not talking our $100,000 an hour pocket change either lol).

I hope this answers your question in a nutshell.

Take Care.

P.S.

There is precedent for this. Sony developed "SuperBeta" which boosted
resolution to 300 lines left-to-right, but was still backwards
compatible with the old 240-line standard.

Wouldn;t it then be called a VCP?
