As I've thought about it, the more I think the "consequences" may be a
resonance factor. His mimic basically sets up a harmonic that increases
the other's power. Can you imagine what would happen if Nathan's speed
was suddenly quadrupled or Dark Niki was made four times stronger? If
Matt's telepathy was four times stronger, it could overwhelm his mind -
or even feedback and overwhelm the mind's of those around him.
Similarly, If Isaac were suddenly to see the future four times more
often or clearer, it could destroy him.

For some people, the extra power may not be that big a deal. For
example, would it matter if Claire regenerated four times faster?
However, I could see where an overcharged regenerative system could be
a danger - one cut, and she could basically become a walking tumor.

That's why Hiro was worried about a rift, especially if Peter cannot
control the resonance or doesn't yet control it.

To me it seems more likely that the others would drain Peter if he had
too many of them too close to him at the same time. Sort of like a
chameleon having to blend into a checkerboard.
