After Valley of the Dolls why would anyone attempt a nightly soap?

Reading the posts about the new 13 week series (is it just one or a
string of 13 week soaps?) this has been done before and failed
miserably. Remember in the 1990s there was a syndicated soap opera at
around 11pm called Valley of the Dolls?

Now this was done in post primetime network hours and failed. My TV
Network wants to do it in network hours?

These aren't soaps in the American sense of the term, but telenovelas in
the Latino sense of the term. Telenovelas have a particular format and
they also have a particular style, that is different from American soaps.

If you haven't seen or heard of Latino telenovelas, and you don't know
anyone who's a fan of them, then you probably won't understand the
market My Network TV is aiming at. They're not aiming those shows at you.

I can't picture many people at 8pm saying for 13 weeks lets skip new
episodes of NCIS, Will and Grace, Bones, Ghost Whisperer, etc and
watch this .

If MyNetwork does this at 7pm or even 11pm it has a tiny chance. From
8-11 no chance.

My prediction: the ratings from Valley of the Dolls will look like first
season Survivor ratings compared to this.

Learn from history.

The only prior history that is relevant here is from Univision and
Telemundo, where these telenovelas have been a popular staple with their
demographic for years.
