It's How Faith Hill Likes to Joke Lately

Singer Faith Hill claimed she was only goofing around backstage at the
Country Music Association Awards when a camera caught her bursting with
anger at her rival Carrie Underwood, who was honored with the vocalist
of the year award.

"She was just messing around," spokesman Paul Freundlich told Reuters.
"She didn't realize that the camera was rolling the whole time. ... She
just thought they were doing a shot when they read the nominees off."

He added: "Faith is the most mild mannered, funny and goofy individual
you could ever meet."

Cameras surprised Faith Hill's reaction when the prize for vocalist
of the year was announced and it wasn't so nice, for the moment.
However, that's how Faith Hill likes to joke around. Hill could be
seen throwing her arms up in mistaken triumph as Underwood's name is
read, then shouting, "What!?" directly into the camera as her smile
turns to a look of shock.

"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is
unimaginable to me," Hill said in a statement released this Tuesday
through her publicist. "For this to become a focus of attention given
the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and
deserving female vocalist of the year."

Other nominees for the same section, Sara Evans, Martina McBride and
Gretchen Wilson, all behaved so to speak and gave the gracious loser
smile while applauding.

Weren't all the other nominees out in the audience while FH was
backstage? There's a bit of a different feeling - easier to goof off
backstage.

Hill's manager, Gary Borman, has also weighed in on the controversy
adding, "I've worked with Faith for many years now and the idea that
she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another
human being's success is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her
know that she's incapable of such actions. She was being playful while
the nominations were being read and playful after."

American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood was the center of attention
during the entire ceremony.

"Two years ago I was sitting at home watching these very awards and
watching all these other people win and having the best night of their
life, and this is the best year of my life," she said in her acceptance
speech.

The singer who was also given the Horizon award for most significant
creative growth, confessed backstage that she was pleased only with the
nominations, not the mention the trophies. "I would have taken male
vocalist if they had given it to me," she joked.

Longtime friend of Hill, Leann Rimes took Hill's side on her website.

"Okay, I usually keep quiet on topics like this but I feel I need to

lol! Too funny!

anyways, my 2¢.
The Faith's "reaction" was totally a joke. She was giggling non-stop
before they announced it, and the whole thing occured a couple days
after the Kanye West thing. Faith was mocking Kanye.
If its that big of an issue... it should be taken up now. The artist should
all get together and protest for things to change. We won't see it. Many of
the artist won best Male/Female their first year out..... I was not
surprised by LeAnn's reaction.

stand up for my friend, Faith. She was just being honest and emotional
like every other person sitting at home with an opinion. These awards
shows are SO political and we all get fed up with them. We all work
very hard and have for many years so to see someone come in and win
Female Vocalist that has been here for a VERY short time, is a little
disheartening."

She went on to say, "That is why we have the Horizon award and Carrie
had an incredible year, enough to sweep that one. I don't think Faith
was angry about her loss, she probably felt, as I did that Carrie has
not paid her dues long enough to fully deserve that award. As artists

Didn't pay her dues long enough to deserve the award? It was vocalist
of the year. It wasn't a lifetime achievement award.

Her whole statement she posted sounds a little "unreal"....

and public figures, we have to keep our feelings so repressed so we
don't get called ungrateful as Faith has on this board many times now.
She is a very sweet and gracious woman, whom I adore. Please cut her
some slack!"

"I stand by Faith as my fellow artist and friend as an honest mistake
was magnified. I also, as you know from previous post, respect Carrie
and wish her well!" she added after realizing the controversial
opinions her statement could start.

So Hill & Co. have been calling it a joke, in poor taste, but still a
joke - Rimes now calls it "an honest mistake" and asserts that Hill was
truly "angry about her loss" due to shared feelings of Carrie not
paying "her dues long enough to fully deserve that award."?

With friends like Rimes, who needs enemies.......

Brandy Alexandre...
If only people could look at these things logically and reasonably
they wouldn't be "things."

Wha?
I was commenting on Leann Rimes and her weird statement.

Brandy Alexandre...
I was commenting on why the heck everyone was commenting on it.

evening_blu...
Oh, I see ..... I was horrified at the thought that my post was taken
out of context....

Brandy Alexandre...
No, sorry. :)

We've seen Faith Hill on a zillion awards shows. We've seen her win
a zillion awards. No doubt that on many awards shows she expected
to win. Can anyone offer evidence that any of the other times she
was up for an award, expected to win, and went on to win, that she
made a grandiose gesture like that upon the announcement? No! So
she's not in the habit nor has a history of accepting awards like
that, nor is she in the habit of anticipating awards that she has
not one and reacted like that. It is PLAIN and OBVIOUS in the clear
light of day that she was joking! She knew the cameras would be on
the nominees, that there had been a pathetic display from a
disgruntled artist on a recent show, and for two whole seconds did a
send-up of it. And then all cameras went to the winner.

The whole thing should have gotten a chuckle and then forgotten save
for a few comments from intelligent and astute journalists noting
the Kanye JOKE.

I disagree with you, Brandy (which is not typical). But, her spin is a bad
spin on this. If it was a joke, it was in poor taste. I do not think it was
a joke because just the very nature of the music business calls for the
artist to be driven and aggressive when it comes to their careers. She
wanted to win, and for a split second, let that show. Her best spin would
have been that she could not hear. Joke or not, she came off looking bad.

mc...
Could not hear what? I thought it was an utter and obvious joke when

I wholeheartedly agree. Even if you believe the "spin doctors" it is still
pathetically in bad taste.

Scott...
We were supposed to believe that she hadn't heard "Piece of My Heart" before
she recorded it, too.

Her publicist has quite the imagination, but not a grasp on people's
gullibility.

You would think Rimes had the good sense not to make any "public

Could not hear the announcement...would be a better explanation than an
ill-timed joke.
Silly her, the internet remembers everything. Pretty dumb I'd say.

'joke'.

Hey Leann, sweet and gracious Faith called, and said to STFU.
