How many here have thought bat giving up TV all
together?

I would love to try and do it as an experiment for an extended period
of time just
to see how it affected my life not having the thing on. Can't do it
now with family
members that I know will never go along with the idea.

Reason I ask is I've just sold my TV with intent to
replace it with another better model

I did this once for about 6 months or a year. That was
about 25 or more years ago. It was OK.
|
But frankly I've not missed it that much yet. Granted
its summer and I'm outside a lot but I was actually
thinking abt NOT buying another TV and cancel cable
service and use that money to buy a satellite radio
receiver such as the Pioneer Inno and listen to radio
from now on out

I have XM in my car and I have been thinking along these
same lines. There is some really good programming in
me...
|
So do you think you will do it? Get rid of TV and go
sat radio all together?
ranck...
|
No, I might drop cable and just go with DVDs. A lot of the good
stuff is available on DVD. I think my wife might not like
dropping the TV entirely, but maybe . . .

Get this
I called my local cable system up thru which I get
Internet and TV channels
I told them I've sold my TV and would like to turn off
the TV portion of the signal for now until I decide
whether to get another TV or not
They said "fine but there is a $20 charge to downgrade
service". Meaning they need $20 to turn off the TV
channels
I hesitated and said no way..... not paying to turn
service off. Don't mind being charged to turn it back
on.... but NOT off
I said either waive charge or just disconnect
EVERYTHING. They agreed and will waive charge
Know what? I may get another TV but if I do I've done
decide I'm THRU with cable systems and their pranks. I
will get HD TV and get off air HD signals or
something.... but no more cable TV for me
As far as the Net? Will eventually go with a wireless

the evenings. How about a weekly radio program with
Bob Dylan as the DJ, or Tom Petty? Both have weekly
shows on XM where they play whatever they want.
|
What think?
I love old time radio shows, talk shows, PBS radio...

|
You mean NPR, and they have a lot of the NPR stuff,
plus Bob Edwards, who used to be on NPR. There is
supposed to be some old time radio, but I haven't
checked it out yet.

What an insane stunt. No one should even attempt it except a trained
professional like David Blaine.

Well I'm not saying to quit mass media all together
What I'm proposing is replacing TV with sat radio

Ugh! It reminds of those filler news stories you hear about once a
year, or so, about some 11 year old kid who decided to give up TV for a
year as an experiment and how their life has changed. Everytime I see
these stories I can't help but wonder what they've missed, as a result.
(Granted, with the advent of the internet, the impact is less severe
than was once the case. Still, no TV for a year? Why put yourself
through it?)
