KenStahl...
The morse code with the opening credits tonight was "There
is a fire"

One thing that is really dumb is that someone turned the
power on in town without sending out power crews to check
whether it was safe to do that. Very, very bad idea. They
could have done immeasurable harm to the substations in the
area through there foolishness.

Also, telephone don't just come back on because suddenly
power is available. Central Offices may be highly automated,
but they don't come back on line without at least some
intervention. And that would mean that there would be locals
who are employed by the telephone company who would have
been told that their CO was coming back on line.

Do the writers really think that there are not viewers who
know how power grids and telephones work? Or do they just

Ar Q...
When the power is back, the computer servers hosting switching system could
be back in a very short period of time.

KenStahl...
It just isn't that simple. My brother works in the power
industry. I work in the telephone industry. COs do not come
back on line automatically - especially if the servers went
hard down once the UPS failed. And if they were turned off
manually to prevent them from going hard down they would
have to be turned back on manually. Given the number of days
the power was down the UPS batteries would not have lasted
long enough to preserve the servers at the CO.

Allen W. McDonnell...
Hey Ken, you are making the unwarrented assumption that because the power
was down in Jericho it was down in the server locations as well. Jericho is
a small in the middle of nowhere place, odds are it was low on the list of
places to get power back vs the major metropoliton area's where the
switching nodes are located, unless I am missing what you are talking about.
Also it now appears from 'Federal Response' that Jericho is taking place in
October 2009, not today. A lot can change in three years.

KenStahl...
For a town the size of Jericho the central office cannot be
great distance away. Five to ten miles max. You can't
support that many phones without a central office.

Allen W. McDonnell...
My point is/was, maybe the Central Office got power back two days ago and
Jericho is just tail end charley because she is so small?

Perhaps things can change in a couple years but I doubt
they'll come up with a miracle to replace COs in that amount
of time.

Major ChrisB...
does it really matter? I dont think so....

not care?

altec3220...
I would assume the latter.

David...
Nah they probably do it so that the people who enjoy feeling smart by
nitpicking tv shows have a reason to keep watching.
