What You Don't See on American TV: Real Journalism

Watch some people squirm as they are asked real questions by real
journalists- not the fakers who appear on U.S. TV.

Call me "anti-Israel" if you want. I prefer to call these clips
"anti-Wolf Blitzer" or "anti-Katie Couric" -- (or pick ANY U.S.
mainstream newsperson).

Anthony...
Don't lump Katie Couric in with Wolf Blitzer and other cable newsies.
Katie is just misinformed about many things. Blitzer, on the other hand,
is a hack. "Situation Room" eh? It's the same exact show as before.

We really need a true 24-hour international news channel. Currents is
nice for what it is, but the network it replaced was needed more IMO.

That CBS would hire this know-nothing to anchor their flagship news
program speaks volumes about how filtered the news has become.

Mark Cuban has got an HD thing in the works with Dan Rather that
(hopefully) will be at least on the level of a BBC or a Reuters. But
even so, if only say 100k people are watching it, what's the point,
really.

Newsworld International probably had even fewer viewers. The big three
have been trailing behind the cable news networks for years in terms of
mindshare, so there's been this pressure to reformat network nightly
news in the shape and style of cable news programs. Peter Jennings knew
this was the future of news, but was very resistant to this change. He
fought to make sure World News Tonight remained as it was despite the
ratings. Then after he passed on, World News Tonight started running
more family values segments.

It makes sense to make Katie Couric a news anchor in today's news
business. She's charming, funny, and attractive. Look at Fox News' Linda
Vester. When she first got Dayside, the commercials didn't tout Vester's
journalistic skills, but rather focused on how pretty her face and eyes
were. Remember the song that played over the slow-mo video of her? Fox
is always up for boasting about how Studio B's Shepard Smith got voted
the hunkiest man somewhere. Then there's CNN and all the cut-aways that
show long-legged news anchors in leather mini-skirts. Sure, part of me
can't complain. I'd love to have a Farrah Faucetesque poster of Paula Zahn.

Gone are the days of the traditional, bland suited news anchor that
stoically relays the news of the day without comment. Morton Downey Jr.
would be proud.

No we dont. People get the news they want. If they want Fox News, they get
it.

If there was a true, hard hitting news channel it would get no viewers.

If you want the real news, there are many places to get it on the Internet.
