In the spirit of the old riddle about why a dog licks himself, let's discuss
TV series that existed primarily because the producers got a new
technological toy and decided to build a show around its capabilities.
First example:
"Dream On" - MCA Television developed a computer database that could quickly
deliver clips from thousands of old movies and tv shows into a digital
editing system when the user made a thematic request (i.e., type in "Let's
get out of here" and the computer spits out all the scenes in which that
line was used.) Marta Kaufmann and David Crane (who would later create
"Friends") used that machine to create an adults-only HBO sitcom in which
the audience saw a man's fantasy life play out in the form of scenes from
old TV shows.
Any other examples?

Well, it might not have been a new technology, but the short-lived,
self-explanatory 'Drew Carey's Green Screen' relied on green screen
technology for its very existence.
One could also argue that the computer animated TV series 'ReBoot'
existed to showcase computer animation advances not previously seen on
the small screen.
