Emmys - I realize that they put a great deal of effort into the opening skit, but...

...the worst airline accident in the United States since November 12,
2001 occurred this morning. They could have skipped the first scene.
The joke would've been spoiled, but that basically happened anyway.

where the hell is the remote...
with folks like mr obrien involved there IS NO ACCOUNTING FOR TASTE

evwill...
There's probably no way to pull that switch on such short notice.

David Levy...
There was no time to shoot new motion picture footage, but it wouldn't
have been difficult to start with a mock newspaper headline (along the
lines of "O'Brien Missing"), followed by Conan washing ashore. This
would have weakened a joke that already was spoiled by the unfortunate
timing (IMHO).

akjack...
"twould be nice if someone in the East or Central time zone could post
how many minutes the Emmys runs beyond 11 PM Eastern.

evwill...
It didn't run past 11 p.m. Yeah, I'm amazed too.

David...
I can't recall the Emmys ever running late. It's the Oscars and
Grammys that have that problem. Other awards shows usually end on
time.

akjack...
Thank you both. I'm recording it for my wife. She asks why I stop
recording before the show ends whenever awards are broadcast.
She seems to doubt me when I tell her the show ran long.

Bill Steele...
Whenever I record an awards show I tack on an extra 30 minutes. Would
your wife complain if there was extra stuff on the tape?

Everett W.

Some of us in the West will record the show for viewing tomorrow
evening.

KennyGee...
What timing?
I never heard about the crash until AFTER I watched the Emmys.

MrBuddwing...
Actually, a very good suggestion. Or maybe they could have slapped on
the opening of "Gilligan's Island."

The TV critics are going to roast Conan O'Brien for this one.

GarondoMarondo...
They didn't show any actual crash or explosion, maybe they edited it

David Levy...
That's possible. The cut to Conan in the ocean did seem a bit abrupt.
Still, the implication of an airplane crash was quite clear. It's
strange to think that this would have seemed perfectly comical
yesterday (as though the concept is ever a laughing matter).

David Levy...
Indeed, but he's critical condition.

down a little, and hey that crash had a single survivor just like
Conan.
