One of the best all round ways to tell if any given TV series will fail is,
the so called one paragraph test.
Which simply put is this, describe what the TV show is about in one
paragraph to some one who has never ever watched that TV show.
Think about for a moment, then try and describe any TV that got cancelled
this year, and in its first and only season.

How long can the paragraph be?
I don't watch programs in the first half of the premiere season.
It might be interesting to describe a multi-season series in one
paragraph.
Here is a one sentence example:
Office workers at a paper company create issues among themselves
and do goofy and occasional romantic things.

Here's my example: "The bad American ripoff of a good British sitcom".

"There are no enemies in science just anomalies"

KIDNAPPED and VANISHED were serial dramas about kidnappings of "high
profile" (rich and / or famous) people that would take a season to resolve.
SMITH was about a group of thieves who specialize uber-expensive targets,
led by veteran thief who's CURRENTLY hiding his larcenous life from his
wife, who's suspicious.
STUDIO 60 was about former great writer-producer team brought back to an
ailing network and to revive a formerly great sketch comedy show.
