Lord Vader III...
We finally started watching Desperation last night and had to turn it
off after 1.5 hours due to boredom. We're still going to watch the end
of it tonight to see how it ends and it really disappoints me how bad
it is. There used to be a time where I'd really look forward to the
Stephen King originals on TV but none of them have impressed me for a
very long time. I haven't read any of his books but is his writing
getting worse or is it the networks that are ruining these things?

Rich...
They can't get worse. Neither can his books or the taste of those who
read them.

Brian Thorn...
I have to say, I tried to read "Cell" (already being prepped for the
big screen) but gave up. Zzzzzzz.

BTR1701...
Let me guess: your taste in books, music, magazines, movies, games,
sports and theater is perfect. Anyone who doesn't like what you like and
hate what you hate is objectively wrong.

Have I got it right?

trotsky...
Have you ever?

Rich...
Not at all. I just think King is a poor writer. Do you have a

BTR1701...
That's fine. But you thinking King is a poor writer is merely your
opinion. By extending your opinion to a condemnation of the literary
taste of anyone who feels differently than you do, you're setting your
own opinion up to be the objective benchmark by which all writing is
judged.

It ain't.

BTR1701...
Ah, yes. Another one who has decided my life will improve if only I
thought exactly like he does. Why don't you and Rich get a room?

BTR1701...
And opinion is opinion. Yours ain't the gold standard for everyone else.

BTR1701...
So you're now claiming to have more experience, knowledge, expertise or
talent than anyone who disagrees with your opinions on good and bad
literature?

Rich...
I think my judgement about King is accurate in this case and therefore
I think that people who really like his work are mistaken to think
he's a good writer. There is good writing and bad, you can

BTR1701...
I'm not talking about generalities. I'm talking about this issue right
here, right now. Your opinion about King is nothing more than that: your
opinion. It's not some objective truth.

differentiate between the two, it doesn't all come down to pure
opinion.

problem with that, Stalin?
