You're gonna be impressed. The production values are near feature film
quality. The cast is very strong. The problem is, we have to "like"
the lead charaters, and quite a few of 'em are very nasty.
But it's very well done, Ray Liotta is a fine craftsman, but I wonder if
they have any budget left for eps 2-whatever.

Apart from violence that didn't seem necessary (it used to be the
caper was the Big Deal and making it intriguing was important), I wondered
how the show was going to continue. The boss only wants to do 4 or
5 more jobs, and that won't expand into a full season unless there
will be a lot of peripheral stuff.

There's supposed to be a heist every 6 episodes or so.

I kind of get the idea that this caper isn't over yet. It wouldn't
surprise me if they do one caper per season, in the season premiere,
and then spend the rest of the time cleaning up the things that went
wrong. So they only have to do 4 or 5 more jobs to have a successful
series.

yeah I can't think of any other prime time network show where the bad guy
isd the hero of the show. Absolutly loved the pilot, Amy Smart was

Gary Cole as Sheriff Buck was the star, but I wouldn't say he was the
hero of that show. I think the hero duties there were shared by the
various "good" characters - the kid, the doctor, the reporter, the
ghost sister.

ChrisB did specify "network show". While FX is, technically speaking,
a network, the term is generally applied only to the broadcast
networks.
I don't know if ChrisB had THE SHIELD in mind when he specified
"network show", but I assume he was trying to keep at least THE
SOPRANOS and BROTHERHOOD out of the running.

fantastic, Ray Leotta is always amazing and I really hope they give this
show legs.

NYPD Blue. Sipowicz is every bit as bad a guy as Mackey.

I was a little disappointed. The cast is a notch higher in calibre and the
chemistry between characters was better than the doomed 'Heist' but the
ambience wasn't quite as good.
Also I think I'd prefer a single caper to be spread over a 3 or 4 episode
arc. Smith seemed to have tried to pack too much into an hour timeslot.
OTOH they have at least set up a reason why he has to keep stealing instead
just retiring on the proceeds of a single big job.

CBS slipped up. They need to put numbers, or a series of letters in
the title, or else people won't think it's cool to watch.
"Smith 2.0" or "Smith XI" or something like that...
The sad thing is I'm not kidding about this.
