The CW is picking up six series currently airing on UPN: comedies "All
of Us," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Girlfriends"; reality series
"America's Next Top Model" and "Friday Night Smackdown!"; and drama
"Veronica Mars."

I'd be stunned if they went with "All of Us" over either "Half & Half"
or "Eve".
|
Seven WB series have made The CW's cut: dramas "Everwood," "Gilmore
Girls," "One Tree Hill," "Smallville" and "Supernatural"; comedy
"Reba"; and reality series "Beauty and The Geek."

I also doubt they'll pick up "One Tree Hill" (I also have doubts they'll
pick up "Supernatural", or possibly "Veronica Mars").
|
I'm just happy Everwood is returning.

Anybody got any links to other sites that verify this news? I clicked
on the link and tvweek says it doesn't exist. I suspect that this is
because it's a trade mag and I'm, thus, not a subscriber, but
normally, trade mags like Variety won't deny that the page exists,
they'll just tell you you can't access it because you need to
subscribe.
It's not on thefutoncritic yet, or Variety.com or the Hollywood
Reporter either.

It doesn't have anything to do with your subscription status. That TV
Week article is NOT on the TV Week site at this point. I tend to
believe that TV Week simply misinterpreted the CW promotional brochure
and thus posted incorrect renewal information.

This is indeed the case. I followed a couple of links on E!'s message
boards back and forth and it does look like the TV Week writer
misinterpreted the remarks that Ostroff made at the shindig on
Wednesday (and which the Hollywood Reporter reported correctly). The
article links quickly propagated, but the mag then pulled the article
within about an hour (if that) after it was originally posted.

The latter mag, however, did have an article posted today at:
about a presentation that CW head Dawn Ostroff gave at the Warner lot
yesterday in which she refused to announce a specific fall line-up,
but said:
"Asked after the presentation which current shows might be returning,
Ostroff declined to specify and said that announcement would be made
at the upfront in May. However, it is likely that the UPN shows
"Everybody Hates Chris," "America's Next Top Model" and "SmackDown"
and WB's "Smallville," "Gilmore Girls" and "Beauty and the Geek" will
be among the shows on the CW's 2006-07 schedule."
If the OP's link is true, though, the vast majority of the renewals
would be no surprise. Everwood is certainly going to be THE big (and
welcome) news to me, but I'm sure OTH fans will be pleased as well.
Also if true: the casualties not previously announced (we already know
that 7H and Charmed are goners) off the top of my head are:
UPN -- who cares? The ones that didn't survive all sucked
The WB: Living with Fran, Twins, the rest of the half-hour sitcoms
not named Reba, Related.

I think that means everything I watch on UPN and WB made it. Of course, all
I watch is Veronica Mars and Smallville . . . :-)

What good fortune this is! I think this means they may be platooning series
as well. They'll surely add some new ones from development as well.
I was holding my breath for VM and I really didn't think either OTH or
Everwood had a chance on the new sched. I'm more than happy!

Your presumption could be premature. I'd guess this link takes you to
the actual source for this TV Week article:
The operative info. is this (which does not in any way indicate a
renewal, although it does suggest an inside track for the listed shows)
:

According to CBS and CW network honchos -- who met with advertisers
Wednesday on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank -- the CW is already
tracking strong awareness among its target young-adult demo.
[...]
While the CW hasn't officially announced any new pickups, the network
did pass out materials that listed shows such as "Veronica Mars," "One
Tree Hill," "Supernatural," "Gilmore Girls," "Everwood," "Reba" and
"Everybody Hates Chris" as dramas and comedies "returning 2006-2007."

It looks like Television Week has realized its error and removed their
story. According to the Broadcasting & Cable article that David posted, the
only 2 confirmed pickups so far are "America's Next Top Model" and "WWE
Smackdown". I'm guessing The CW is floating possible pickups out there to
advertisers and affiliates to gauge reaction.

I figured it was too good to be true. Darn.
