CW launching reality show 'Crown'
Girion will exec producing via Fox TV Studios
By JOSEF ADALIAN
The CW is getting ready to launch a beauty pageant -- with a family
twist.
Net Friday will announce an eight episode order for "Crowned," a
competition reality skein in which mothers and daughters will team up
to win a pageant-style contest. Laurie Girion ("Last Comic Standing")

It seems like several TV sitcoms have made fun of these types of beauty
pageants over the last few years.

will exec produce via Fox TV Studios.
Series seems designed to explore the complex relationship betweens moms
and daughters by throwing them into the stress-filled world of beauty
pageants. Weekly episodes are expected to feature various challenges,
such as a swimwear competition or a production number.

What age range for the daughters?
Are we talking about teenage daughters here?
I hope they're not talking about little six year old daughters. Because
after JonBenet Ramsey, that type of "talent competition" became very
controversial and might depress ratings for this show.
|
A panel of judges will weigh in each week and will ultimately crown a
winning duo. It's believed producers are looking for a celebrity
mother-daughter pair to serve as judges.

Already a major flaw in the show's design. If they want ratings, they need
to let the public call in audience decide the outcome, not a judging panel.

Having a judging panel doesn't rule out also having viewing audience
participation.

True. It just depends on how it is done. Will it be like American Idol
(where the judges opinions don't mean anything and the audience decides) or
will it be like Rockstar (where the audience opinion is negated by the
judges descisions)?

In addition to a title, winners are also expected to walk away with a
six-figure cash prize.

Later, the winners are VERY disappointed to find out that two of those six
figured are to the right of the decimal point. ;-)
William George Ferguson...

And one is the decimal point :)
Chuck Barris: "The winner gets five hundred sixteen big ones, and
thirty-two little ones." (for the trivia-minded, $516.32 was the SAG/AFTRA
minimum for a single appearance speaking part at the time)
