1. Dilana (with Gilby Clarke)
"Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who
asya...
So, we were wondering (while watching it) if Gilby is out-of-practice and
just wouldn't be able to keep up with the original tempo...
asya...
And I think sometimes those guys just want to be contrarian to shake things
up...
asya...
I noticed that too. Like it's impressive that a girl can play guitar but
not a guy?
asya...
Will do --and don't worry about my hearing, I'm bringing earplugs to
defend against crimes against music.
Setzer...
seapig...
Not her best performance, but she looked like she belonged up there
with Gilby, and she put to rest some of the doubts I've had about
whether her style would mesh with the group's.
Ra...
I didn't like the arrangement.
I think the key was chosen to accomodate how Gilby liked to play the song.
Dilana still pulled it off but it could have been thrilling if it was tailored to her range, instead of Gilby.
fille...
Love Dilana - but am sick of "The Who" and their music so didn't like
this song choice.
Ar Q...
This is her first performance that didn't give me the chill. It proves that
Dilana is too good to be in Supernova. Once she tried to fit in other's
shoes, she lost her power. For her own sake, she better flies solo. And if
the band really loves her, they BETTER not to choose her as the lead singer.
IT DOESN'T FIT.
I think eventually they will choose Toby or Ryan because the three middle
age men still think they are good looking studs. They won't allow women in
the boys' club. Magni is short and looks old. Lukas is too weird and ugly in
their eyes.
fille...
I think Dilana is actually too good for this band as well. And while I
didn't like her singing the Who song I think it was because it was a
Who song and not Dilana. I grew up during the time the Who was big and
30 years later they are still playing the same freekin two songs by
them that I was sick of back then. Dilana has such stage presence - I
think she would basically make the "boys" of Supernova seem invisible
and they might not like that. I keep fearing the band will choose Lukas
but he is my least favorite. I want to smash his face in (is that
mean?).
Tzigaane...
Seems reasonable to me. Ok, maybe it is mean, but I understand because I
feel the same way. If all you want is rock star schtick, well ok then,
*that* he can do well; but he is the least of them vocally. Especially
this week's song. He was getting high praise for his falsetto? His
falsetto was *horrible*. But don't get me started :-)
arnie332211...
When Lukas sings, he sounds like he's throwing up. Can you imagine 2
hours of this?
flyguy...
I don't get her. She seems very genuine...but seeing her front a band?
After 3 songs I would be tired of her quaking voice.
callenmolenda...
Dilana continues to be my favorite. As someone else mentioned, I
thought Gilby's guitar playing was a little weird on this song, which
is so well known for it's opening riff. Dilana was reserved and raw
all at the same time. I love her.

JXStern...
2. Jill Gioia
"Mother Mother" by Tracy Bonham
Setzer...
seapig...
Really solid. She avoided her tendency to oversing, she played with
her look a little bit, without going all Courtney Love again, and she
kept it entertaining.
fille...
Love this song - think she did pretty well with it, tho her movements
were a bit over the top.
flyguy...
She can sing- when she's not screaming.. better chops than Dilana, but
has the performance thing so screwed up she has no chance with this.
callenmolenda...
I really like this song and I thought that Jill did a surprisingly good
job with it. That said, I have completely lost interest in Jill.
3. Ryan Star
"Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones
Setzer...
seapig...
I was prepared to laugh at him - getting flashbacks of Garth Brooks'
"Chris Gaines" period - but the dude pulled it off. For the first
time, I'm starting to think he actually has a chance. He certainly
wants it, with the amount of effort he's putting into changing things
up.
The Chris...
EEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSYYYYY on Chris Gaines.... :) What was wrong with
that??? :)
fille...
eh, a little too theatrical maybe?
flyguy...
Shown he can sing 'some' songs... but his whole affect is not visually
appealling to me.
callenmolenda...
I thought this was... okay. The black wig at the beginning was
ridiculous but the singing was pretty good. I'm beginning to think
that Ryan doesn't have much range.
4. Storm Large
"We Are the Champions" by Queen
Setzer...
seapig...
My fear was that Storm plus Queen would equal something too musical
theater-y for my tastes, but that didn't really happen. For once, the
problem was her voice. I thought she pitched the whole thing too low,
draining the tune of it's usual triumphant tone. She sounded like
somebody who'd won maybe a wild card, not a championship.
fille...
The rock stars seemed to like it - for me she was very flat on this.
flyguy...
Again, she can sing 'most' songs.. but a whole night? Her vocal chops
are just ok (imo).
callenmolenda...
Boring. I like Storm alright, and I know everyone's pulling for her,
but for me she's just okay.
5. Zayra Alvarez
"All the Young Dudes" by David Bowie
Setzer...
seapig...
I hope somebody else does this song down the line, because I enjoyed
the job the house band did with it, including the backup vocals. I
wanted Zayra to stop singing so I could hear the music. Supernova
should be ashamed of themselves if they send anybody but her home
tomorrow; she was light years worse than everyone else tonight.
fille...
A good song but didn't like her take on it. And man, that outfit. Tho I
liked the hat.
flyguy...
Let's face it... visually stunning. How bout that outfit! I see her
fronting one of those no-name bands I see on Saturday Night Live (that
suck) - way not right for this, though.
Ra...
I think that is a Mott the Hoople song.
Led by Ian Hunter.
Ra...
callenmolenda...
Horrible. Terrible. Awful. I know that there are several other
singers who have no chance of getting this job, but I am really tired
of Zayra's little act and her complete lack of singing ability.
6. Josh Logan (with Tommy Lee)
"Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots
Setzer...
seapig...
As usual, his voice sounded okay, but he was overpowered by the band.
There's still no reason to think he would fit with these guys.
fille...
was okay but he doesn't really do it for me.
callenmolenda...
This wasn't bad, but the whiney boy-band tone to Josh's voice continues
to put me off. And why didn't the band point out how Tommy overpowered
him, like they did with Patrice? Talk about your double standard.
7. Magni
"The Dolphin's Cry" by Live
Setzer...
seapig...
When I saw the acoustic guitar, I was afraid he was going to go all
wussy, with his family here and all. But, he delivered a powerful,
intense performance. With Dana gone, I'm officially pulling for him
now.
WiNK...
As male contestants go, he is definitely my favorite...and that performance
was *stunning.* Wow.
fille...
Absolutely, and by far, the BEST of the night! SUPERB!!!
flyguy...
Best of the guys.. great chops.. but has that smirky, overly cocky
attitude that shows up sometimes.
callenmolenda...
Amazing. Magni is amazing. I've never heard this song before but it
was beautiful, best of the night.
8. Patrice Pike
"Instant Karma" by John Lennon
Setzer...
seapig...
Boring Patrice is back. She did a competent job, but competent isn't
going to cut it much longer.
fille...
Love the song but thought her version was too cutesy. Tho she does have
an appeal but don't think she's right for this band.
flyguy...
I really like this girl. She is just now starting to relax and sing.
But like someone said, has that 'good girl' trying to be a 'bad girl'
sort of look that works against her (unfairly).
callenmolenda...
gahh, could we please have a double elimination tonight, getting rid of
Zayra and finally putting Patrice out of her misery? She is a
perfectly competent, even very good singer, but this is the absolute
wrong kind of music for her.
9. Lukas Rossi
Gooserider...
Not showing up as binaries on my end.
-Calliope-...
GAH.. it's driving me insane.. Whenever there is a supernova post with a
date in brackets (so it seems)... it shows up as a binary post.
Anyone else using Xnews that might know why this is happening, please feel
free to offer up a solution!
"Creep" by Radiohead
Setzer...
torontothegood...
Saved himself for awhile???. He's gonna win this thing hands down.
seapig...
This was the first time I liked one of his performances. He'll
probably get the encore, because the band obviously liked it, and he
hasn't gotten one yet.
fille...
Man, finally a song that suits him - and I mean that literally!!!!
Actually didn't do too bad on this one - I could make out the words.
flyguy...
Gets the best out of what minimal vocal ability he has... but not good
enough. Again, I'd be tired of him after 3 songs.
callenmolenda...
Color me astounded; I actually enjoyed it and this was one of two
performances I listened to twice (Magni's being the other). Who knew?
Hated the wink at the end, though.
arnie332211...
He cant sing. What is gonna do, sing Creep every week? Its not that
difficult song to sing. Wait till next week and he will be back with
his annoying screechy voice.
Gooserider...
It is a pretty difficult song to sing, if you want to live up to Thom Yorke.
10. Toby Rand
"Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads
Setzer...
Entertaining.
***
Encore: Should be Magni, will be Lukas
Bottom 3 at the end of the show: Jill, Patrice, Zayra
Predicted Bottom 3: Jill, Patrice, Zayra (Josh will be in there somewhere
too)
Who should go: Zayra
Who will go: Patrice (sadly)
seapig...
This would have been a good performance in the first couple weeks of
the show, but with so many contestants raising their games, it didn't
stand out tonight.
My bottom three: Zayra, Josh, Patrice. Storm and Toby were also
underwhelming tonight, but I'm not ready to see either of them go.
I'd give the encore to Magni, but Lukas is probably going to get it.
fille...
not bad but again, nothing great.
flyguy...
LIke everyone says - good, not great (which the winner should be).
callenmolenda...
Toby had me until he pulled out the megaphone. I know JD did that in
RSINXS, but it fit the song. No way did the megaphone work in this
song (which just happens to be one of my favorites; I love David
Byrne). I still like Toby but when is he going to do something
amazing?
Tonight's show was great. Only one performance (Zayra) really stunk,
and the rest ranged from good to outstanding.
Encore: should be Magni but will probably be Lukas
My top three overall: Dilana, Magni, Toby
My top three tonight: Dilana, Magni, Lukas
Bottom three: Zayra, Josh, Patrice
Going home: Zayra (pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease)
