aalucard...
A few years ago I think during season 4 there was talk of a cartoon
series based on Buffy. What happend to it?

Don Sample...
It didn't happen.

Rob Jensen...
Scripts were written, model sheets for all the characters were
created, I think that even a short proposal animation was produced.
Studios and networks still passed on it.

Personally, I think whatever VPs at the networks that were in charge
of children's programming were afraid of either the level of violence
or the presence of vampires, or both.

Rob...
Actually I think it had more to do with the decline in children's
programming and Saturday Morning cartoons while series was being pitched. It
was just a bad time to try to make an animated series, and the series didn't
fit in well with either Disney's or Nick's typical programming, leaving only
Cartoon Network.
Oddly enough, had the show targetted the older teenage and adult BtVS
market rather than the younger pre-teen market it may have had a better shot
with adult cartoons coming into vogue right around that time and with Buffy
being a prestablished franchize name. I could easily see it being a staple
of the Adult Swim line-up around the time Robot Chicken and the Venture
Brothers showed up.
