It is really starting to look like the bloom is off the rose for Ugly Betty.

Smallville wasn't new last night.

record hunter...
If I had not seen a commercial for a new Betty and Grey's while I was
watching The Nine, I probably would not have thought to even turn on
the TV. I figure it's all football, so why bother?
Haven't the ratings been pretty steady? I think they were down this
week because of the Deal or no Deal special.

Obveeus...
All the ratings were down because of the holiday. However, Ugly Betty took
a bigger hit than Survivor just like CSI took a bigger hit than Grey's
Anatomy. that says something about which shows are 'must see'.

David...
"Survivor" and "Grey's" are both serials so I guess it says that on
holidays people are more likely to skip standalone shows.

Steven L....
Which is the flip side of rerun ratings. Folks are willing to skip a
first-run standalone episode because they're willing to catch up later
with reruns. Not true with serials--when the first-run episode is
aired, it's now or never.

Obveeus...
Ugly Betty is more of a 'stand alone' show than Grey's Anatomy?

David...
I'm going to go with "yes." "Betty" is a comedy first and foremost.

Steven L....
I watch Ugly Betty and it's about two-thirds standalone, one-third
serial. That is, each episode's plot has a definite beginning and a
definite resolution, but often the very end has a teaser to act as a
cliffhanger to introduce the next episode. I can miss an episode of
Ugly Betty and still follow what's going on in subsequent episodes. I
can watch an episode of Ugly Betty out of sequence (say I stream an old
episode from ABC's website) and still understand and enjoy it. Not the
case with true serials like "24."

I don't watch "Grey's Anatomy."

(ABC), CSI (CBS), ER (NBC)

12 mill and Cook Islands is a "winner"? Way to go, Marc Berman.

Anthony D. Langford...
Maybe he meant for Thanksgiving it's a winner? It was down about 3
million from last week and Ugly Betty was down 4 million. With it
being a holiday and DOND had a 2 hour special, I think that impacted
both shows.
