"Road Tasted" is miserable.

Bailey Legull...
Well, I didn't have high hopes for this show and was definitely
disappointed. On the plus side, the Deen boys went to three of the
best New York bakeries (Mike's Deli on Arthur Avenue is worth the trip
to the Bronx), and it was interesting to see behind the scenes. On the
minus side, they kept repeating that you could buy all the food you saw
at the FN website. I don't know about you, but I like more of a
distance between television and SALES.

The big problem, though, was the boys: they've got Rachael Ray
Syndrome. They think everything everybody says is hysterical, every
wisecrack a classic, so instead of interesting conversation we get some
lame, obvious crack and then thirty seconds of cackling. You won't
learn anything about food, but you'll learn over and over again exactly
what the forced, fake laughter of good ole' frat boys sounds like.

One line was almost good: one Deen said his brother exercises. "But I
just wear my shirts out," he added.

Follow this by forty "hyuk"s and you've got the gist of the show.

Frankly, it's a sad state for the Food Network. I hoped Rachael's
unwatchable celeb talk show was an aberration. Whatever hack created
it, though, has been allowed to strike again.

I thought the locations and establishments were interesting and especially
liked the emphasis on Italian dishes. But, those two guys still give me the
creeps! "Ooh, Momma would like this!" "Ooh, Momma would love that!" We
all know that they are riding in the wake of Paula's fame and success, but
cut the apron strings (and maybe take some acting lessons). I was waiting
for one of them to smack one of the cooks on the back of the head, tie him
up, gag and blindfold and throw him in the trunk of the car. Poor guy wakes
up chained by the ankle to a prep table in Paula's kitchen, surrounded by
the Queen and her Court and tons of butter and heavy cream, never to see his
friends and family again!
