I'm still able to get the old-style grid on ClickTV (knock on wood),
but I wanted to see local cable listings last night and decided to
check the S.F. Chronicle's site.

Turns out they're using something called "MeeVee." It appears to be
quite functional, except that it can't tell the difference between
search words in quotes and ones not in quotes (the traditional way
to differentiate between "find this phrase" and "find all of these
words"). Hence, when I searched for John Ratzenberger's show "Made
in America," it gave me everything that contained "Made," "In," or
"America." However, a movie by that name and Ratzenberger's show
were at the top, being identical matches, so the other results
weren't too annoying. I feared what would happen when I searched
for Christian Bale's movies, but in that case, all the results
were directly about him; I didn't get everything that had "Christian"
in the title, description, or cast list. So that's encouraging.

I haven't subscribed to the service, but I see that subscribers
can set up watchlists. Members also get to customize their channel
listings--and it appears that, like the current ClickTV format,
you can delete just the channels you want.

After playing with it for a few minutes, I tried plugging in a
Florida ZIP code, and it gave me all the local cable/satellite
options for that ZIP. So it appears to be a national service.
Their own website says their media partners include Gannett,
Hearst, USA Today, and the Seattle Times (in addition to the Chron).

According to their press release archive, they launched a year
ago June. But I don't recall seeing them mentioned here before.
Or maybe they were, and I just didn't pay attention because
things were going okay for me with ClickTV. (I see by one news
story that they were previously known as MyDTV, if that rings
a bell with anyone.)

Anyway, something for you to take a look at if ClickTV's changes
are making you tear your hair out.
