Does Letterman recycle old jokes on Monday nights?

I was watching Letterman tonight because Meryl Streep was on and all
the jokes in the opening seemed out of date and then I recalled that he
tapes Monday's show the week before but can't they come up with jokes
that are general but not topical?

When they are taping, they tape Monday's show on Monday and then
Friday's show on Monday, too. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are
taped on their respective days.

Friday's show is taped Thursdays at 8 pm, unless there was some change
recently.

They changed the taping schedule over a year ago. Friday's show is
taped on Monday after Monday's show.
