NBC to offer preview of new shows via Netflix

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The NBC television network on Wednesday said it
would offer a preview of two new prime-time series to subscribers of
movie rental company Netflix Inc. six weeks before their actual
broadcast.

NBC, owned by General Electric Co. said it hopes to drum up early
interest in the shows, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Kidnapped"

Doubtful. Someone avid enough to get it early from nettle would probably
watch the re-run.

karl...
I suspect the rationale is more of it being a test audience. NBC will get
hard numbers on people watching, not the more amorphous Nelson's.

Many flixers are artistic movie lovers and are doubtful TV consumers. I'd be
surprised if even 1 million flixers wasted their picks on TV show pilots. I

David...
I assumed that the pilots won't count towards anyone's queue and would
be sent as extras to anyone who wants them. At least that's how I'd do
it if I was running the promotion.

Laddy...
They seem to show up as regular choices. There is no mention they don't
count. Both pilots are on the same disk although both pilots are listed
separately. Someone who doesn't know this may end up with two of the same
thing inadvertently.

David Levy...
It's strange that the system allows both titles (each noting the other
as a "bonus") to be queued simultaneously.

know I won't waste mine unless there aren't any theatrical releases that I
want to view. If these are going to DVD, they'll probably show up in the
usual places pretty quickly now.

by offering it on DVD to some 5 million Netflix subscribers.

Subscribers will be able to watch the first episodes of each of the
shows and sample trailers of NBC's other new series set to air in the
2006/2007 broadcast season. The shows will be available beginning on
August 5.

Josh Hutcherson...
So why hasn't someone cracked the code (DVDShrink) and put the Studio
60 pilot ep on the P2P (Morpheus) system to watch for free by now? Is
it really *THAT* bad??!!

jayembee...
Ah...because it isn't August 5 yet?

Anim8rFSK...
Yeah, unless they include the commercials on the DVD, this could really
backfire on them.
