Jus saw the "Malcolm in the Middle" series finale, and as always, they
went out of their way to avoid the revealing the family's last name. A
speaker makes a noise as Malcolm is introduced before his valedictorian
speech so that his last name is not heard.
How many other TV chracters' last names were never revealed on their
series? I know Charles on "Charles in Charge" was another. Benson's

Switching it around, what about Miss Parker on The Pretender?

My favorite example would be one of the best comedy characters of all
time, Rip Torn's "Arthur" on "The Larry Sanders Show."
And, of course, the janitor on "Scrubs" has no name at all, at least
not after five years.

Faith on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
And before anyone says it: No, it's not Lehane.
Patrick Joseph McNamara...
|
I've never seen the show, but could it be Leanan as in leanan sidhe? It's an
Irish fae similar to a vampire.
BTR1701...
|
No, Faith was a Slayer, not a vampire.

Lehane was never said on the show, only in games and such. In fact, I don't
know that we know Faith is her real name, or if it is, that it's her first
name or anything. She could be Pricilla Faith for all we know. Or Pricilla
Goodbody, using the nickname 'Faith'

Ken from Chicago...

If the creator of the show, Joss Whedon, says so then it's "Lehane".

P.S. Be glad it's not William's last name, "Pratt".

surname was unknown on "Soap," but was revealed on his spinoff series
after a season or two as DuBois.

Michael Alden, on Coronet Blue.
Paladin, on Have Gun Will Travel.
Faith, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Jack Klugman's "Quincy". Though I think they eventually indicated that it
was his last name.
Brian Thorn...

Well, and all those references to "Dr. Quincy" when he was introduced

Trivia note: In TOTAL TELEVISION Alex McNeil says "Though Quincy's
first name was never divulged on the show, a closeup of his business
card in one episode revealed that his first initial was 'R'."

Fez
Barry Margolin...

He also has an unknown first name. Fez isn't his name, it's a nickname
he was given by the other characters, from the initials of Foreign
Exchange Student, because they couldn't pronounce his real name.

I think there was some disagreement between Bob Denver and producer
Sherwood Schwartz as to whether "Gilligan" was the character's first or
last name. As I recall, Schwartz maintained the character's full name
was Willie Gilligan, but Denver didn't see it that way.

Ooo - almost everybody on Bewitched - I don't think we ever knew Sam's
maiden name, and Endora, Maurice, Arthur, Serena, Aunt Clara, etc. -- none

and has nobody mentioned STAR TREK?
Mr. Spock - you couldn't pronounce the Vulcan family name.
Also, Sulu and Uhura only picked up additional names in places other than
the original series itself.

And Hymie always explained "My father's name was Hymie" (as a robot, I
assume Hymie referred to the man who created him as his "father." And as a
robot, Hymie had no need for another name.)
|
|
No, that was just a cover name she used when they were trying to catch
Rex Savage.
She told Victor Royale (the guy she was planning to marry in "99 Loses
Control") that her name was Susan Hilton, but when Max calls her
"Susan" at the end she says it's not her real name. (I believe I read
an interview with Buck Henry once where he said "Susan is NOT her name.
She's just "99.") If you notice when they took their marriage vows in
"With Love and Twitches" the minister does not say her name.
Her mother doesn't use her name, either; just calls her "honey" and
other endearments.

of them had last names.
Same notation for Jeannie.
Barry Margolin...
|
Did they even have last names? I always had the impression that the
witch and genie communities simply didn't use them.
|
Rhino...
|
But Jeannie wasn't her real name either, was it? I seem to recall her being
found in the company of her "Master" by one of the other characters who
asked who she was. Tony said "This is my genie", which the other character
misheard as "Jeannie". At that point, she became "Jeannie" to everyone for
the rest of the series.

I've heard this one argued back and forth for years, and nobody offers any
proof.
Sherwood Schwartz wrote a book about "Gilligan's Island." If anyone has
read it, and can provide the page number in which Schwartz mentions that he
intended Gilligan to be a Willie, please tell us.
