The big four networks have gone to court to protest what they claim are

And yet some broadcasts that contain material fitting that definition
are never fined. Others have been fined even without material that fits
that definition. All attempts by broadcasters to have the FCC put forth
a set of bright-line standards by which broadcasters can be sure of what
is and is not punishable have been rebuffed.

Personally, I think the networks should have learned from the Janet
Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" that they can't trust interview guests to
avoid the use of swear words. I have suggested that *ALL*, repeat
*ALL*, live broadcasts be on a 7-second delay. Even C-SPAN. Remember

you from that you can't protect yourself from by changing the channel?

C-SPAN is a cable channel, not broadcast. While the FCC has made
rumblings, they've not yet tried to enforce any such decency rules
against a cable network that I'm aware of.

That's because they CAN'T.
Any "rumblings" are just empire-building attempts that can go only
nowhere.
They are responsible for the public airwaves, not private showings.
They have as much authority over cable TV as they do over what I see at
a Broadway show.

Personally, I think people should grow up and start acting like adults
instead of shrieking like hysterical little girls every time someone
says a dirty word.
