Does anyone have any information on "The Thin Man," a 1950s? TV detective
series

Not really, but I do have an idle thought. It's kind of weird when
they name a series after a character who probably doesn't even appear
in it. Why didn't they call it "Nick and Nora"?

Give it up. We Hammett fans lost this battle decades ago - it
bothers very few people that "The Thin Man" referred to the villain in
the book, not Nick.

Well at least the first sequel got it right -- "After the Thin Man"
takes place one week after "The Thin Man".

Because the title "The Thin Man" was more marketable.

w/Ida Lupino and Howard Duff? IMdB says the series starred Peter Lawford and an
actress who was not Ida Lupino. But I recall being disappointed when
Lupino left the
show for directing.

I had no idea there was a TV series - was it based on the same premise as
jayembee...
|
Well, it was based on the movie series in that the idle rich
couple of Nick and Nora Charles solved crimes.
The boxed set of Thin Man movies that was released earlier
this year has the series pilot included as a bonus on one of
the discs.
The show wasn't awful, but Peter Lawford (who I was never
really a fan of) and Phyllis Kirk had neither the charm nor the
chemistry of William Powell and Myrna Loy.

(before Noelle Neil).
