CBC is going to a 24-hour broadcast schedule as of tomorrow,
so tonight will, I presume, be the last time they'll do a
signoff and color bars. A bit more mention of it here:

I can remember when the local CTV outlet went 24 hours, it
was within the past twenty years and I think closer to ten,
they'd have movies and old tv programs. But it didn't last long.
That same station only runs movies overnight from Thursday through
Saturday, we get reruns and MTV stuff (the network owns MTV-Canada),
and a whole lot of infomercials. Except for a relatively brief
period, 24 hour tv hasn't done anything.

Time will tell what the CBC makes of it. They've bumped the latenight
movie to 2am which I dislike (though they seem to have dropped the
themes for the movie programming where one night was foreign and another
British and so forth). They are slotting reruns of current programs
after the news is over (they've now dropped the 11pm rebroadcast
of the 10pm news, instead that George whats-his-name that was
hosting that musical talent show on the US channel in the summer
gets his CBC Newsworld cable only program moved to 11pm weeknights),
rather than digging in the vaults for things we've not seen in
decades (though perhaps they've sold off the vault material so
they can't show old episodes of The Beachcombers).

I was looking over the schedule at the CBC website last week
and adding about five hours of programming doesn't really seem
to make much difference.
