Maybe this weapon is the beginning of the lead-in to the fleet
discovering Terra (not Earth for you new people).

Hmm, they can't be so near to discovering Earth already, otherwise the
series will stop right there. It's possible that they'll put a
red-herring Earth (i.e. Terra) in between where they are now and where
their final destination is.

However, a populated Class-M planet with humans on it already would
cause quite a bit of excitement for this BSG series. We've never seen
other planets that were populated with humans already (we saw them all
of the time in BSGTOS), so one would think that the discovery of even a
planet like Terra which is not the real Earth, would still be a *big*
discovery. Notice how excited they got just discoverying new Caprica, a
planet not even inhabited, but habitable?

Another idea nobody brought up is that it was prolly left there by the
renegade 5 cylons.
Maybe the 7 cylons are at war with the 5 cylons?

I just thought of that too, earlier this evening. There must be a reason
why the 7 Cylons don't talk about the 5 Cylons.

However, there has seemed to be a supernatural element that's been
driving both sides for a long time. This could be a test from god for
the Cylons. They wiped out the Humans, and now they got such a major
advantage over them, that this might be god's way of evening things out.

Oh, I just thought of something, maybe Caprica-Six and Baltar might be
responsible for this device. I'll post my theory in another thread.

I'm betting it was left by the 13th tribe on their way to Earth.

They mysterious capsule and the nebula remind me of the original BSG
movie when the vipers had to clear a path through the minefield. Could
we see a similar thing this time when/if they go to move through the nebula?
