3.5. Initially I didn't like this episode very much, but on a second
viewing, I found it pretty entertaining. The dinner scene is one of the
funniest things to date in the series. *

I'll give it 4 stars (Gold Camp, Tropico Mine).
I thought the end was a trifle contrived "deus ex machina" style
(although it seemed less so the second time I watched it).
Memorable lines: "Captain of the innuendo squad?"
"Dinner and bondage? I like it."
Excellent dialogue, character development and acting.
I enjoyed the interaction between the Doctor and
"Margaret" (the actress can do creepy villains nicely).

3 - extra half for the dinner scene.
One thing that did bother me was all the guff about a spaceship
arriving in London in a blatant fashion, the Doctor going on about
first contactand humanity realising its place in the universe etc in
the previous two parter, and no consequences in the chronologically
direct successor, that I noticed. A tip of the hat might have been
nice - seeing as that is one occasion where Dr Who has demonstrably
altered from the real world in a way that the general public might be
aware of. (I'm no uberfan, and am assuming that most of the UNIT stuff
etc was kept under wraps).

You're forgetting the scene at the end of Aliens of London where the whole
alien threat was written off by the media as a hoax.

I am indeed. I suspect the freaking spaceship in the middle of the
Thames being made of cardboard and cellophane would have given the game
away to the valiant truthwarriors of the MSM.
