Al Smith...
Boxing isn't about beating your opponent, it's about scoring
points. As long as there isn't a knockout or a disqualification,
the man with the most points scored wins. This leads to some
unfair decisions, where a man may be way ahead on points but may
be getting his ass kicked in the last rounds. He still wins,
because he ends up with more points.

Derek Janssen...
Although the movie was meant to be an extended ESPN commercial, which
you would normally find in a Disney movie, except that Sony was in the
business of dusting off all their old MGM trademarks they got in the
fire sale [qv. "Pink Panther"] to see if they'll work again.

(...Actually, I don't really have anything to say here, I just wanted to
ruin the thread header for the original poster some more.) :)

Jon Schild...
A spoiler warning would have been thoughtful here, but since I have no
intention of seeing the movie it doesn't impact me personally.

That is why everyone is so sick and tired of boxing, by the way.
It is boring. Mixed martial arts is much more interesting to
watch, and more realistic. And also less harmful to the fighters.

Howard Brazee...
If it's more realistic, how come they need to have rules to keep it
from being a boxing match?

Al Smith...
I don't think they do. The mixed martial arts fighters seldom
stand there exchanging punches with each other for very long
because it is much less effective that grappling on the ground. A
good wrestler will beat a good boxer seven days a week, fifty-two
weeks a year. If anything, they have rules to encourage the

EGK...
Yeah, right. That's why Chuck Liddell's striking (boxing) ability
outclassed Randy Couture's wrestling 2 out of the 3 times they fought for
the UFC light-heavyweight title.

Al Smith...
Split decision, Rockey loses. :-)

fighters to trade punches. When they grapple too long, the ref
breaks them up and stands them up. Boxing isn't really combat,
it's a kind of dance that induces brain damage.

Boxing invariably results in brain damage. Mixed martial arts
doesn't. You may get a dislocation in mixed martial arts, or a
broken arm, but you don't get permanent brain damage. Boxing is a
has-been sport, and is on its way out.
