Rob Jensen...
Well, I skipped the past two weeks of cutting and pasting Gilmore
Gossip out of the Ask Ausiello column because, well, as he
acknowledged in one of them, he's been avoiding posting spoilers for
Gg recently due to an impending interview. However, the last two
weeks combined do add up to a decent post, so I'm posting the Gilmore
bits from them here, with a little added Gg trivia courtesy of issue
#17 of Smallville magazine (with the Smallville 1001 trivia article
and Aaron Ashmore/Jimmy Olsen interview):

Ask Ausiello can be found on the TVGuide.com website at:

or for the last two:

SPOILER SPACE AHOY-ISH!

First, the Gg trivia, via Smallville #17 (Nov/Dec 2006 issue):

BTW, these are my words, not the magazine's:

1. In a move that was just so wrong in even description, much less
contemplation, Milo Ventimiglia auditioned for the role of Clark on
the show. Yes, now the audition is ironic, given that he's on NBC's
new hit show, Heroes as The Boy Who Thinks He Can Fly (But Is Really a
Power Leech), but god, he would have been so wrong for Clark. However,

Barnabas Collins...
I have to disagree. A few months ago I'd have thought that but
now that i've seen him on Heroes I think he could pull it off.

the audition (which was likely a cattle call in which an auditioner
might be considered for more than one part or even for more than one
*show*), the WB liked Milo enough that, according to the magazine,
they gave him the role of Jess on Gg. Or more likely, IMO, they said
to Amy, "Do you have a part in mind that this guy could play?" So
that's how we can all blame Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the late
creators of Superman for the addition of Jess to Gg.

2. Cynthia Ettinger, who played Maureen, Sherry's so-called "Best
Friend" in a couple of episodes of Gg, including the classic Dear
Emily & Richard, where "She screwed up!" became her appalling
catch-phrase for describing Sherry going into labor a week early, was
the original Martha Kent in the pilot for Smallville until she was
replaced by Annette O'Toole.

That's it for the trivia, onto the Spoilery stuff!
