CBS has is glad they have Chicago, the 3rd largest market in the country in
the Superbowl, but Chicago and Indianapolis? An Illinois / Indiana match up?
Sure the Midwest may like it but it lowers interest by the coasts.
Now a Chicago / New England match up would have ideal. CBS could have

Everybody know that the highest-rated matchup for this year would have
been Seattle vs. San Diego.

brought up the whole 85's Bears / Patriots rematch deal, legends in the
making, etc. It would have been easy peasy, plus you have the Midwest / East
Coast interest, you're number 3 and number 2 markets.
Still it's okay--from CBS' view. From Chicago's view it's cool because you
don't have to deal with the rematch deal.

I thought I went over this a few years ago...for the Super Bowl,
markets almost don't matter. It's still going to be the most watched
program on television this year...

No other event on US televison can really match it for broad appeal.
Casual, hard core and even non
football fans will watch just because it is what it is.
It is like a national sports holiday "Super Bowl Sunday" is part of our
language.
