I caught part of an IBM ad yesterday and was immediately
reminded of a scene from a certain 1973 Woody Allen film.
Even the music is similar. See what you think:
Anthony Cerrato...
It's the one called "Testing."

Definitely. Woody in his balloon suit is the golf cart,
and the dixieland music backing up the Keystone Kops
zany chase is a direct take off.

And no, I don't work for IBM. :-) I just think they've come up
with some great TV ads in the past few years. Wasn't there another
one that was reminiscent of the almost-final scenes of "2001"?

I can see why you'd think so, but it's kind of vague - it could be
any 70s Allen film. My favorites were Vault and Fashion.

Perhaps so. I'll have to find my videotape of "Sleeper" and
look for that chase scene. Seems pretty close to me. Anyway,
it'll give me an excuse to watch that very funny movie again.

If it was up to me I think I'd rather see IBM ads based on 70s Allen
films from Irwin than Woody. Though except for "City Beneath the
Sea" his 1960s tv shows would probably make better fodder for them.

So, what's up with CBtS? You do or don't like it?

I do, or at least I did back when I saw it, many years ago (though
I have to ask whether anyone _ever_ really believed that "aquadozer"
could ever be a real word).
What I meant was that of Irwin Allen's 1970s output "City" was
practically the only one that had the unmistakable look and feel of
his 1960 tv shlock (and I mean that in the best way possible), given
the way he hit it big with "The Poseidon Adventure" and "The Towering
Inferno" and never went back to his 1960s style. (Except possibly
for "The Return of Captain Nemo" in 1978, which I've never seen.)

Yes, it does! Thanks for reminding me.

The IBM spots are pretty good but they don't grab me as much
as the Geico "Gecko" ads--saw three of 'em today and I just
love that little fellow with the Brit accent! I wish they
could make a feature film with him as star! That'd be
fabulous. (He is everything Jar Jar Binks could have been
and wasn't in Star Wars, Ep. 1. :) )
