I kept wishing that they'd just put the eye on a stick or fork or
something..I kept watching it spinning around in the bottle and
thinking that that would NEVER work on a real scanner.

If he scanner is lookintg inside at the retina, you probably don't want
to stick a fork in it . . .

If you're looking through the pupil at the inside back of the eye you
likely don't want anything stuck in the middle. Probably don't want to
let the juicy goodness run out either.
If it's just looking at the iris, not so much of a problem.
Gluing it to a popsicle stick should be fine though.
