So many great little moments in yet another funny episode...
"Hi, I'm Meredith, and I'm an alc...."
Dwight's "Lost" reference...
"I'm....collarblind."
Kelly's knowing wink to the camera after grilling Jan.

That was great. I like her character, they've been giving her a few
things lately.
|
"We'll get someone to clean that up."
"WE'RE the ones who clean it up!"
I also have to say that I am becoming more impressed each week with
Steve Carrell as an actor. He does more with a blank stare than anyone
else. His frustration in "The Injury" episode was just priceless.

Wonderful episode. My best laugh was the person wearily erasing the "936
Days Without an Accident" chalkboard and replacing the 936 with "O." :)

The "Lost" reference was very interesting in that the episode of "Lost"
where they did go to meet the Others was only a few weeks ago. Is there an
older episode he could have been referencing? It's impossible to believe
last night's episode of "The Office" was shot only in the last two weeks,
recent enough to insert that line. Also, the last line in the warehouse,

The first encounter with the group known as The Others (the earlier
inhabitants) came in the first season finale last May (the water scene
with the group attempting to flee on the raft).

I thought of both the other passengers and the other island inhabitants. I
thought he could have been referring to either. Moreover, I think it's
entirely possible the writer's of The Office may be privy to some inside
information concerning Lost a couple of weeks before the general audience;
assuming they're friends with the writers of Lost. The scripts must be
written long before the epsidoes actually air...

something like "This isn't over," echoed the last words spoken between
Sawyer and "Zeke" almost exactly. Coincidence?

The meeting with the Others has been telegraphed since last season. It
wouldn't have taken any time at all drop that line into "The Office".
"This isn't over" is a time-worn action movie cliche. So not so much
"coincidence" as an allusion to the conventional.

And Jenna Fischer raised the bar with Pam last night -- it was just
heartbreaking, but I get being frozen in inaction. The Valentine's Day
episode next week should be pivotal.

There was way too many funny quotes in this episode, one of my personal
favorites was when Jan said the girls should dress based on the job
they want.
That's when Pam looks at the camera and says "Is Jan dressing to be a
hooker"?

That was Angela, actually.

I also loved Meredith's and Dwight's quotes that you mentioned.
And the one chick in the warehouse that walked out :)

You haven't seen the original British version of The Office. The NBC
version is a mediocre imitation of the original.

I used to feel that way.
Then I actually gave it a chance and I love this version. It's NOT an
imitation of the UK version which is what may put some off. It's found
its own footing and is very good.

I have seen the original. The US one is just different, it's not
imitation at all.

Well, I *have* seen the original British version and I disagree. The
British version is ok but the US version is pretty different,
particularly after the first episodes, which had similar plots, and is
(in my opinion, anyway) superior in some respects. This season is
better than last season, too.
|
The first few episodes of the NBC version were obvious clones, and
the series wasn't that interesting. As the storylines have started to
be original the similarity to the original is waning.
I have yet to see a Steve Carell performance superior to one from
Ricky Gervais.

They're simply different. I like Steve Carrell overall and think he's
good in this role. Gervais is good too, in his own way. (Although,
not always. I've seen a few episodes of "Extras" on HBO and found it
to be pretty uninteresting.)
|
BTW, the blank stare seems to be a gimmick on the show. The whole
cast does them.

Actually...YES...I did watch the whole BBC version of the Office; that
doesn't negate the humor of the NBC version. Initially I was hesitant
to "like" the Steve Carrell/NBC Office, however it's definitely grown
on me now that they're doing their own scenarios and not rehashing the
British one. I'm judging the NBC version on it's own. Lamer..sheesh.
