Mike...
A friend of mine mentioned something to me about The Flintstones and I
took a look at the Wikipedia for it (gotta love Wikipedia). Anyhow, it
says that Barney and Betty couldn't have a child of their own, so they
adopted Bamm-Bamm. Pretty progressive stuff for TV in the 60's. I
wonder what euphemisms they used on the show to describe that the
Rubbles were barren.

Well, having twin beds might have been the problem. Funny thing though;
when they visited the haunted house they showed Fred and Barney sharing a
double bed but they couldn't show a married couple in a double bed.

LAdezio...
Actually, IIRC, Fred and Wilma were the first married couple on prime
time television to be shown sleeping in the same bed.

Certainly not from the beginning. It's been a long time but I recall that
for some of the run Fred and Wilma slept in twin beds. When did they make the
switch to a double bed?

Though I never saw the episodes I read an account of early censorship on
the "Lucy" show. When she became pregnant and they decided to incorporate
into the show they couldn't say she was "pregnant" or even "expecting" [I
guess "knocked up" and "bun in the oven" were right out.] They ultimately
decided on the French word for "expecting".

Also I imagine if Betty gave out her burbling laugh every time Barney took
off his one brown suit that might have caused... shrinkage. And then there
was Barney's voice change. Maybe he went in for a little snip-snip and it
couldn't be reversed.
